The Associate Plant IT Analyst assists in implementing and supporting technology solutions for the company’s operations, with a focus on continuous improvement. This role is an advocate of continuous improvement, industry-recognized best practices, and standardization across the organization. You will have an important role in IT delivery and support for our Manufacturing plant operations and Warehousing operations.  Your focus is on assisting with efforts to provide and support high-quality technology solutions in support of daily production and continuous improvement initiatives for our plants and warehouses.  The Associate IT Plant Analyst works with internal and external partners to translate software requirements into technical specifications and processes.

The primary role of the Associate Plant IT Analyst is to assist Plant Systems and IT Delivery management in bridging the gap between business users in our plants and IT technical resources. This role is responsible for understanding business requirements and helping translate requirements into functional specifications, testing, and implementation support. By leveraging cross-functional teams and project management skills, as well as an understanding of cross-functional relationships, the Associate Plant IT Analyst will help deliver process and technology solutions supporting our manufacturing operations and warehouses.

Responsibilities

Serves as a liaison between Manufacturing and IT

Assists in translating business needs into IT requirements for Manufacturing and Engineering projects, Plant cost-saving initiatives, onboarding of new acquisitions to Smithfield systems, requests for new technology and network-connected equipment, system enhancements and upgrades.

Assists in the design, testing and implementation of changes, enhancements, and upgrades to system(s).

Works with Plant Operations to review current business processes to determine where automation/improvements will drive efficiency.

Recommends innovative uses of existing software functionality to reduce manual effort and maximize the return on our investment in technology.

Assists in the functional configuration, modification, and testing tasks for the designated systems.

Assist implementation teams in deploying new systems and operational processes in support of strategic business initiatives.

Assist in the development of detailed implementation and contingency plans and provide user and management training before, during, and after system deployments.

Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure and Security teams to prepare site infrastructure as needed to accommodate new equipment, systems, and processes.

Travel to implementation sites, when appropriate, to assist in the on-site deployment and training.

Assist in prioritization of system issues and troubleshoot systems to propose fixes as appropriate.

Maintain and enhance systems as required to support changing business and technical needs.

Work with key users to troubleshoot manufacturing applications and interfaces.

Participate in support efforts for equipment such as industrial PCs, in-motion scales, RF scanners, load cells and scale heads, barcode printers, wireless access points, equipment cabinets, etc. for assigned plants.

Develop and maintain a working knowledge of new technologies, keep accurate inventories of systems and IT equipment, and update our knowledge base of problem resolutions

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

Company will consider a currently enrolled college student with an anticipated graduation by end of current school year as qualified.

Manufacturing systems experience, preferred.

Effective critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Self-directed with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively at all levels across the organization.

Must be able to travel up to 30%, dependent on projects and plant support needs.

Excellent organizational skills required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.

Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
