The Department of Psychiatry is currently considering Associate and full Professor candidates under the WSU BSOM Faculty & Clinical Affairs policies regarding rank.
As a member of the Psychiatry faculty team, this position will have opportunities to directly contribute to academic development, learner experiences, community-based research, and community-based academic programming. Minimum Qualifications By the date of hire, candidates will have: M.D. or D.O. degree (or equivalent). Board Certification in Psychiatry. Ohio Medical License.
Associate Professor: M.D. or D.O. degree (or equivalent) Board Certification in Psychiatry Ohio Medical License At least five (5) years as an Assistant Professor. Academic activity, including having developed an independent research program, playing a leadership role in the development of a collaborative research effort, or having a sustained clinical research effort. This will combine activities in the middle and upper tiers of research and scholarship including: a minimum of 5 articles in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent peer-reviewed repository from work done at WSU while at the rank of assistant professor. For publications on which the candidate is not the first author or senior author, the publications must represent reports of work in which the faculty member is the primary author or played a major role in the inception, design, and implementation of the research. designation as principal investigator on extramural research grants, contracts, or training grants. At least three (3) external letters of support from peers, evaluating whether the candidate meets the School and department’s criteria for promotion. The external evaluators should be experts in the candidate’s field and should hold at least the rank of associate professor if they have an academic appointment. These letters should not be character testimonials and should not be based on promotion criteria at the writers’ institutions. The writers should not be current or past collaborators, mentors, or students of the candidate. Educators should solicit letters from individuals who could speak toward competency and excellence in their health care discipline. Preferred Qualifications Proven knowledge and interest in research, publications and grant submissions. Proven leadership and ability to function in a professional, collaborative manner with community stakeholders, faculty peers, medical students and Psychiatry residents and fellows. Ability to serve as a model for excellent in research and clinical care. Essential Functions and percent of time: This Research Faculty position is a part-time, 0.40 FTE appointment, with a predominate focus on seeking and securing funded research opportunities, starting with an allocation of protected time that is made up of existing/transferring funded research effort and grant writing effort and with a goal to have research effort externally funded over time.
Approximate breakdown of 0.40 FTE: 20% research mentorship – ongoing expectation to provide effort towards faculty and learner mentorship on grants, grant writing, clinical research, etc. 15% research and academic administration – ongoing miscellaneous administration, not including funded effort for funded research grant administration. 5% department committees, meetings, activities, and other duties as assigned. Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: All WSU BSOM faculty are ambassadors for the academic and clinical missions of the School of Medicine, requiring ongoing relationship building and physician outreach.
