**Chief of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology**
The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Department of Neurologyis seeking a Division Chief of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology to oversee the Division’s established programs and to set a bold vision for its future growth and vitality. The Division Chief will also hold the **Helen Aresty Fine and Irvine Fine Professorship in Neurology** .
The incoming leader will participate in direct patient care and will play a key role in the advancement of the clinical, research, education and community missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Neurology and the continued evolution of its Strategic Plan (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/neurology/about-us/strategic-plan.aspx) : Perfecters of Neurology . The incoming Chief will also work closely with the leadership of the various neurology research centers to foster clinical and translational research.

**Department of Neurology - Division of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuroimmunology**
The Department of Neurology is proud to be one of the most prominent academic clinical departments in the Country and at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The Department includes 13 divisions committed to compassionate clinical care, educational excellence, innovative research, and advancing equity and wellbeing. The team comprises nearly 125 faculty members, over 25 advanced practice providers, 60 residents and fellows, and 280 staff. The Department faculty have played a leading role in bringing eight new drugs to market and are at the cutting edge of promising new gene therapies.
The Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/neurology/our-divisions/ms.aspx) provides leading-edge adult and child neurological care, combining the most advanced subspecialty expertise with cutting-edge treatments with an emphasis on access, quality, and equity. The Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology offers state-of-the-art services by nationally known physicians with the highest levels of training and the most regional experience. The division currently has 8 faculty physicians, 3 advanced practice providers, 3 nurses, and a social worker who provide multidisciplinary care from a catchment area that extends beyond the Pennsylvania state line to the South, into Vermont to the East and beyond Buffalo to the West. They provide services to approximately 10,000 outpatient visits annually. The Division oversees a growing number of regional infusion centers with a total 14 chairs, managing over 900 patients and 3283 infusion appointments annually.
The Division is internationally known for its research and leadership in experimental therapeutics of MS. The Division oversees research assessing novel immunotherapies targeting multiple steps in the pathogenesis of MS, evaluating new symptomatic therapies and the autoimmune basis of neurological diseases. The Department has expanding research programs advancing neurotherapeutics using pharmacologic, cell-based and behavioral approaches, while simultaneously defining models of care to prevent suffering. Extensive collaborations exist with the Del Monte Neuroscience Institute (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/del-monte-neuroscience.aspx) , the Center for Health and Technology (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/health-technology.aspx) , and the Center for Translational Neuromedicine (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/ctn.aspx) , to support clinical trial readiness activities to be at the cutting edge of therapeutic development, including first-in-disease trials. Additionally, the Division includes an (tenure-track PhD holding) faculty member who investigates the role of complement in abnormal synaptic pruning observed in animal models of CNS inflammation as well as autoantibody-mediated cerebellar dysfunction.
Education remains at the heart and soul of the Department and Division missions. The medical school Mind, Brain and Behavior course, the Neurology Clerkship and the Adult and Child Neurology Residency programs are considered benchmark programs with national prominence. Graduating medical students enter adult and child neurology at match rates well over twice the national average. We offer 12 fellowship programs to accommodate the growth of our field, including a nationally known MS Clinical Care Physician Fellowship. Many MS Fellows also complete research career development training by participating within the Department’s NINDS-funded T32 training program in experimental therapeutics of neurological disease.

**Qualifications**
**Requirements:**
• Must possess an MD or equivalent
• Must obtain NYS Medical licensure before starting
• Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry at the level of Associate professor or above.
• Board Certified in Neurology
• Post offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required
• Criminal background check required
• Compliance with University and New York State health requirements
