Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/18/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Associate Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with a high academic rank who has demonstrated a sustained record of effectiveness in teaching, research including scholarly publications, and service appropriate to the discipline. The Associate Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head which may include serving as an academic advisor. The Associate Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University. Description of Primary Duties Seeking a candidate who can demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and lead students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and expertise in social work practice. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the use of student-focused pedagogy in the classroom to engage students in the learning process and will join a unit that provides students with access to high-impact practices aimed at increasing student retention, persistence, and success. Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate students, advising and supporting undergraduate and graduate students in both our seated and online BSW program and online MSW program, active engagement in scholarly research, and service to the school, college, university, and community. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Associate Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. Positions associated with this position classification may be located in facilities requiring the position to be designated “sensitive” as defined by University policy. Positions associated with this position classification may include job duties, responsibilities, or activities that are subject to export control regulations. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Additional Qualifications PhD Candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program or confirmed university eligibility through the International Social Work Degree Recognition and Evaluation Service before the projected start date. Potential for or evidence of innovative, learner-centered pedagogy. Demonstrated excellence in research. Ability to teach courses in the social work generalist curriculum at the undergraduate level and the advanced generalist graduate level. The ability or potential to mentor and support our student population. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
