The US Structural Biology Center of Excellence (CoE) at GSK, a new joint Vaccines and Pharma Center, will be established in Cambridge, MA in 2025. The mission of the CoE is to apply the full range of structural biology, protein biochemistry, and computational tools to design vaccine antigens, RNAs, delivery systems, and formulations for vaccines as well as to design antibodies, biologics, and small molecules. We are looking for a passionate and highly motivated associate scientist to join the CoE. As a crucial member of our team, you will be at the center of our protein expression and purification operations and you will find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be responsible for protein purification from bacterial, insect, and mammalian cells. The position will require active collaboration with diverse teams to work together and address key challenges. This role will initially be located at the GSK’s Rockville site in Maryland from 2024 to 2025, and will permanently move to Cambridge, Massachusetts afterwards.” Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the protein production and biophysics teams to select the best constructs and conditions for structural and animal studies. Carry out protein expression and purification tasks as required by the project to generate structural reagents. Perform biochemical and biophysical experiments to characterize the purified proteins. Document your work and ensure appropriate quality control experiments are carried out to support intellectual property and reagent reuse by other groups. Present results and progress updates at team meetings. Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines while working in the laboratory. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. Basic Qualifications: Bachelors of Science or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or other related biotechnology field Minimum of one or more years of hands-on experience in protein biochemistry, preferably in an industrial or academic research setting. Minimum of one year of experience performing common lab techniques including liquid chromatography, SDS-PAGE, western blot. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in molecular biology techniques, cloning, PCR, Gel electrophoresis. Experience with the purification of proteins from additional protein expression systems including bacterial, insect and/or yeast. Familiarity with buffer exchange, TFF, and related process techniques. Ability to further characterize purified material using biophysical techniques including HPLC, nanoDSF, BLI, SPR and/or mass photometry. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholders. Able to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priority and timeline restrictions. Excellent oral and written communication skills with a fluency in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team. Effective communication skills to present findings and collaborate with other scientists. #Vx-Cam #Li-GSK #EarlyCareers The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $78,727 to $106,513 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
