Associate Scientist

Are you interested in contributing to a healthier and safer world? The Associate Scientist is an entry level position that is responsible for supporting new product development through innovative research and through developing technical expertise in STERIS's Infection Prevention Technology product segments, including surface disinfectants and cleaners. The Associate Scientist, with the appropriate training and guidance, will work in the lab supporting the new product development team, operations and quality to enhance the sophistication and compliance of new, unique infection prevention solutions to meet the customer’s varying unmet needs.

What You'll do as an Associate Scientist:

•    Carries out assigned projects, laboratory work, assigned tasks and data analysis under the direction of a supervisor.
•    Understands and complies with accepted laboratory and safety procedures.
•    Demonstrates excellent laboratory technique.
•    Assists in writing test plans and reports.
•    Implements defined approaches and develops simple formulations.
•    Modifies existing formulations to improve performance.
•    Performs analyses to support formulation development.
•    Resolves issues using problem solving techniques to support formulation development.
•    Individual contributor as part of a larger R&D organization.
•    Assists with design transfer and scale-up activities.
•    Conducts evaluations using well defined procedures.
•    Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. 
•    Complies with established protocols and within regulatory and laboratory requirements.
•    Maintains a laboratory notebook and documents laboratory data accurately.
•    Retrieves defined information from scientific literature and maintains a level of technical knowledge consistent with current scientific literature and best practices.
•    Ensures efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of lab supplies and chemicals.

The Experience, Abilities and Skills Needed:

Bachelor's Degree in Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology
•    Internship or professional work experience in a corporate environment or academia.
•    Possess basic laboratory skills.
•    Skilled in the use of basic chemistry laboratory equipment.
•    Ability to read and follow protocols/SOP's/methods.
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
•    Excellent communication (technical writing, written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
•    Formulation experience is a plus.
