This opportunity is assigned to the Clinical Biomarkers Lab, which will work on biomarker assay development to support Clinical Trials in the Department of Pathology. The Cancer Biomarkers Laboratory at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital is looking for an Associate Scientist! The Associate Scientist will perform a variety of cutting edge techniques across a variety of projects. The Cancer Biomarkers Laboratory (CBL) is an Institutional Shared Resource that fulfills a unique mission, conducting correlative science studies for samples collected from patients enrolled on clinical trials. The CBL provides expert advice, technological and experimental expertise for assay development and execution to fulfil study objectives. These include, but are not limited to, molecular, genomic, metabolomic, immunological and flow cytometric assays. CBL supports the entire project lifecycle, from initial study design, protocol development, experimental method selection and validation to implementation, interpretation of results and data delivery to the study Prinicipal Investigator. The CBL also has a role in evaluating novel technologies for biomarker measurement, working to accelerate the advancement of cures, to understand toxicities resulting from cancer therapy, and to enhance quality of life for childhood cancer survivors. The Ideal Candidate will have: Strong skills with immunoassay testing and implementation. Experience with patient samples. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possess strong organizational skills. Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, collaborative team environment. Job Responsibilities: Perform nucleic acid extraction and quantification. Conduct DNA and RNA-based genomic studies, including library preparation, quality assessment, capture hybridization, and enrichment. Execute RT-PCR quantitative assays. Perform single and multiplex immunoassays (ELISA and MSD). Extract and analyze proteins. Assist in developing new assays and experimental techniques. Troubleshoot existing assays and techniques. Implement new assays and techniques. Work effectively to deadlines with minimal supervision. Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Provides guidance to entry-level employees. Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required Minimum Experience: 7 + years of research experience is required 5 + years of research experience is required with a Master’s degree 2 + years of research experience is required with a PHD Experience leading and supporting research experiments preferred Some experience leading lab and scientific project coordination, maintenance, and other research support activities preferred Experience in guiding and training other laboratory personnel preferred Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
