Associate Scientist - Electronic Materials

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an Associate Scientist to implement solutions for customers based on our products and services through close collaboration with customers and other innovation associates/scientists.

The Associate Scientist will identify innovative applications for a range of products to solve specific customer issues by planning and executing hands on studies at internal and customer laboratories.

 

This role will be a full-time position based out of our Bridgewater, NJ office.

The Associate Scientist reports directly to a Scientist and will have the opportunity to be a key contributor to various project teams as assigned. He/she works closely with members of R&D, marketing, sales, supply chain, project management and external customers.

What we’re looking for: 

Education:

BS Degree in Chemistry, Material Science or related degree.

Experience:

1-5 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working in a chemical laboratory environment.

Hands-on skills in wet chemistry, synthesis (organic or inorganic) and purification techniques strongly preferred. 

Demonstrated ability to conduct hands-on laboratory experiments and project planning/execution with minimal supervision

Additional Qualifications: Ability to travel up to 10% (as needed) both domestically and internationally to customer sites and/or other Avantor locations.

Ability to gather and create market reports by conducting voice of customer type activities.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Excellent presentation, collaborative, written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information in written, verbal and diagram formats.

Detail oriented; strong analytical, organization and problem solving skills.

Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Excellent computer skills; ability to learn new systems (i.e. salesforce.com) quickly and maneuver the internet and internal intranet sites with ease.

Conduct hands on technical experiments to include product formulation, purification, stability studies, and analysis of samples using GC, GCMS, HPLC, LCMS, IC, FTIR and other available analytical instruments.  Experiments will also include surface and thin film characterization by ellipsometry, 4-point probe, SEM, and EDS.1.Support the Electronic Materials group.Present status of projects at daily, weekly and monthly project check-in meetings and adjust plan and activities based on feedback to complete project on time.Present finding and project outcome and value proposition at internal or customer meetings.Take initiative to identify and implement innovative approaches and new methodologies by searching literature and/or participating in discussions.Develop project plan and detailed activities by working with project team and customers, and execute various tasks to complete project within desired timeframe.Travel to customers’ sites and/or internal Avantor sites to clearly define deliverables, conduct voice of customers and support project generation activities.Comply with all safety, environmental and quality policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
