Introduction to the Role
Join AstraZeneca's Flu BPD team, a pivotal scientific function providing expertise in Virology, Strain Development, Process Development, and Analytical Development. We are at the forefront of influenza strain development, crucial for the manufacturing of the seasonal live attenuated influenza vaccine.
Our Seasonal Delivery Team is adept in both Upstream and Downstream techniques, such as cell culture, single-use bioreactors, transfection systems, and egg processing. Our mission is to deliver material and data essential for viral characterization in the strain selection process, supply accession seed material to the Manufacturing department, and provide critical reagents to QC groups. Our core capabilities align with our pipeline and business strategy, enabling the production of essential medicines for patients.
Key Accountabilities:
Primarily a lab-based role (90%).Engage in Upstream activities for seasonal vaccine strain development, including egg characterization assays (Growth kinetics, MVS+), cell culture, accession seed generation, and preparation of antigens using single-use bioreactors.Participate in Downstream activities, including clarification, sterile filtration, TFF, diafiltration, and ultracentrifugation.Contribute to development projects by generating high-quality, accurate data and regularly communicating findings to managers and project teams.Operate in a Biosafety level 2 enhanced environment where applicable.Adhere to cGMP standards and comply with GxP documentation standards as per the site Quality Manual.Uphold standards related to documentation, housekeeping, health and safety, regulatory requirements, the Code of Conduct, and company policies.Provide solutions independently and within a team using theories and concepts within a specific area.Participate in technically demanding projects and present data at internal meetings.Strive for scientific excellence through continuous improvement and a “Right First Time” approach.Work within time-sensitive schedules.Serve as a lab champion, ensuring laboratory standards are met in a specific area.Essential Skills/Experience:
Minimum of a life sciences degree, preferably in a biological subject.Knowledge in cell biology, cell culture, single-use bioreactors, egg biology, and molecular and cell biology techniques.Laboratory experience in Upstream areas such as cell culture, single-use bioreactors, egg inoculation, transfection, and handling wild-type Influenza virus.Laboratory experience in Downstream areas like clarification, sterile filtration, TFF, diafiltration, and ultracentrifugation.Experience working under Biosafety Level 2 conditions.Proficiency in GxP documentation practices.A team player with strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills.Ability to work under supervision to meet project goals and deliver impactful data.Understanding of good experimental design and statistical analysis.Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.Desirable Skills/Experience:
