Associate Scrum Master

We are looking to grow our team and are searching for an Associate Scrum Master to join us. You will work closely with development teams to ensure that our Agile Framework is followed and help make incremental improvements so that we can achieve our goals. The ideal candidate has a passion for Agile and helping teams deliver.  Come and help us to better support those working day to day, on the front-line!

Reporting to the Director of Engineering in Belfast.

 

What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day

You will be working day-to-day as part of the program management team within the product engineering division. You’ll be responsible for:

Responsible for ensuring Scrum is understood, and the team uses Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines. Facilitate and mediate agile ceremonies. This includes daily stand ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint review, and retrospective meetings. Collaborating across all the engineering teams. Understand the purpose of each meeting and provide the team some level of direction, as well as steer the meeting without interfering. Allow the right conversations to happen, keeping the teams focused on their priorities, use techniques to help direct the conversation and keep team members on track. Feel comfortable having difficult discussions when necessary.  Hold the team accountable to their sprint commitments and when commitments are at risk of not being met work with the team to align on an alternative plan. Facilitate working agreement creation, ensure it is documented, help the team check their behaviors, and review-with new team members. Help the team understand how JIRA is used and that it is the source of truth for project progression. Capture other documentation needs in Confluence (Scrum Meetings, project summary’s) Help with work intake. Collaborate with the team's business/product owner and other stakeholders to evangelize best practices around requirements analysis and breakdown Communicate delays, roadblocks, or unexpected work coming in, to Development Managers, PO/BA and other stakeholders. Blockers / Dependency resolution. Help get things escalated and resolved so that the team can work more efficiently, and they should strive towards improving inter-team dynamics. 

 

Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role

Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e., Scrum, Kanban) A minimum of 1 year experience as a Scrum Master for a team A Scrum Master Certification (CSM or PSM preferred) Experience of helping a team understand the Scrum framework and the benefits of improved transparency, productivity and quality Experience helping a team react to disruptions, getting resolution quickly or helping the team communicate the roadblocks effectively and working out what to do with the appropriate stakeholders Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, documentation, and coaching skills

 

Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following

Understanding of software development life cycle models Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques those priorities Understanding of and the ability to explain the fundamental principles and founding ideas behind agile. Be able to explain to a team why they are becoming agile, and influence others Experience of planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams Experience of promoting Agile values and principles and good program/project management to peers outside of the team Has experience working with product owners to understand priorities and ensure the team's sprint goals agree with those priorities In-depth understanding of traditional project management principles and practices
