This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Structural Engineer for our Irvine, CA office. Be involved in projects with our Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Performs structural engineering work, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, relating to the design of new and existing structures. Additional tasks may include coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients, managing projects independently, and supervising junior engineers. Ensures high-quality deliverables are produced and distributed on time and in compliance with project-specific construction codes. Demonstrates leadership qualities and a passion for growing within the structural engineering profession.
Your Impact Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures for residential, institutional, and commercial projects. Develop structural engineering solutions to facilitate the re-use of existing building structures though structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments. Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, while also utilizing future-ready solutions with structural engineering design standards. Contribute to project coordination through remote/in-person meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site notebooks/logs. Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems. Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs. Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities. Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You AreRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline. 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience. Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. Detailed understanding of seismic design procedures, ductility, and mechanics of different building materials. Basic knowledge of linear and non-linear finite element analysis and performance-based design. Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design. Knowledge with process and concepts for sustainability and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas. Highly familiar with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., ETABS, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, SAP, Perform3D, spSlab, spColumn, VisualAnalysis, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.). Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer in Training Certification. Prior design experience. A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.WSP Benefits:

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $77,000 - $105,800
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
