Overview of Position
Assurant is the second largest WYO (write your own) insurance company for the Flood Industry. Join our team of Flood Insurance professionals.
The Associate Underwriter role is a virtual position and works on the Flood department’s front line. You will be an integral part of our team by helping retain relationships with our insurance agents. Your calm ability to answer questions and provide policy support to our partners keeps our policyholders protected. You will receive on the job training that includes personalized training plans and mentors. This specialized training will help round out your Flood knowledge in this fast-growing and evolving segment of the insurance industry.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Answer inbound calls from our insurance agent partners
Assist with policy changes, cancellations, and new business quoting
Outbound communication to agents for follow-up
Provide direct policy support with a one call resolution mindset
Instruct agents on system navigation and NFIP procedures
Evaluate agent needs to answer questions and resolve issues
Maintain key productivity metrics and service level agreements
Record first notice of loss during storm season
Understand the current NFIP Flood Insurance Manual and keep up with program rule changes
Hours for this position are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm MST, Monday through Friday, and could include overtime. Anyone with a minimum of 1 year or more of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) experience is encouraged to apply.
What are the requirements needed for this position?
High school diploma or GED
1 year of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) experience
Strong ability to handle inbound calls
Respond to inquiries regarding underwriting processes and decisions, interpret policy forms and coverage limits, and premium details
Use clear guidelines, an underwriting manual, and established authority levels
Make independent decision within guidelines and procedures
Manage basic and routine task
Follow standardized procedures
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced high-volume team-based environment
Exhibit a positive attitude through a friendly and outgoing phone voice
Demonstrate excellent listening skills and verbal communication skills
Proficient in data entry and using 10-key
Able to type 40 words per minute
Experience with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
Bilingual a plus

Pay Range
$18.23 - $29.17
Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience, and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
