ResponsibilitiesThis role is critical to Berkley Industrial Comp’s (BIN) underwriting department. The Associate Underwriter will assist underwriters with reviewing, documenting and preparing renewal files and quotes. The Associate Underwriter will work with the underwriting team to successfully renew business and help meet our retention goals. The role requires individuals to be a team player and work in conjunction with our underwriting department to review, quote, issue and retain business. The Associate Underwriter will learn all facets of the underwriting job and be trained to be an Underwriter.
The Associate Underwriter will work, as needed, to support the Business Engagement Department, as business needs arise. Time spent between Underwriting and Business Engagement will fluctuate month to moth and as such, the Associate Underwriter must possess a positive attitude to help whenever and wherever is needed. The Associate Underwriter will report to the Director of Underwriting; however, both the Business Operations Manager and the Director of Underwriting may assign tasks as needed. The Director of Underwriting and Business Operations Manager will collaborate on the Associate Underwriter’s performance each year.

Within a defined set of parameters:Identify monthly renewals and proactively work with underwriters to prepare renewal quotesWhere appropriate, prepare BRAT models for renewal quotesOther tasks, projects and initiatives set forth by the Director of UnderwritingPrepare pertinent renewal information to include Experian data, SAFER data, OSHA data, claims data, RAMP data, and pricing dataPrepare HAMOGRAK documentation form for renewal filesPrepare BRAT loss modelingCollaborate with BIN’s UW team to propose renewal pricing quotes Other underwriting tasks and projects as neededAssist as needed with Business Engagement tasks as workloads requireCommunicate with the Business Operations Manager and Business Engagement team members to ensure excellent customer service is maintained Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred; comparable work experience can be substitutedCustomer service experience preferredStrong analytical skillsStrong organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple work projects simultaneously Ability to manage change with a positive attitudeExcellent critical thinking skill setProficient with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Power BI)Proficient with BIN rating platforms and systemsAbility to adapt to unfamiliar situations Demonstrate strong attention to detail Positive “find a way” attitude to multi-taskAbility to work with a team with one unified goal Additional Company Details We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms.The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
