Associate / Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development

About this role

The Corporate Strategy and Development (“CS&D”) team sits at the center of the firm and is responsible for anticipating where our clients and the people they serve are going and how BlackRock can best deliver on their needs. It Includes two groups:

Corporate Strategy formulates enterprise-level vision and strategy, informs business-level strategies, and drives large multi-functional assignments and initiatives for the firm. Corporate Development helps realize enterprise- and business-level strategic priorities inorganically, sourcing, assessing and executing acquisitions, investments, divestitures and partnerships / alliances.

The two groups collaborate extensively and include both senior Strategy and Development professionals and a hybrid junior team that covers both groups.

This role will focus primarily on Corporate Strategy initiatives. However, as an Associate or Vice President in the Corporate Strategy & Development team, you will contribute to some of the firm’s highest and most dynamic priorities: the ideal candidate has strong interest and capability in the development and support of enterprise strategy and on supporting inorganic priorities, as needed.

Responsibilities:

Contribute to the development of enterprise and firm-wide growth strategiesWork with senior management and business unit leaders to determine strategic objectives and identify opportunities to meet these goals including (but not limited to) market entry strategies, business prioritization, and assessing strategic investments and partnershipsSupport strategic initiatives and projects that promote the implementation of the long-term firm strategyContribute to the evaluation of business opportunities globally including acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and joint ventures based on our firm-wide strategic prioritiesContribute to project teams driving transaction-related activities including deal evaluation and due diligence, working closely with business unit leaders, internal functional experts, and outside advisors to support execution of transactionsCommunicate strategic priorities and execution plans across the firm via presentations, meetings, and written communicationsPartner with broader Finance & Strategy organization (e.g., Corp Strategy & Dev, FP&A) and senior business leaders on strategic initiatives and projectsSupport senior management on ad hoc projects (e.g., preparation of strategy offsites and leadership conferences)Develop and maintain industry and competitive intelligenceDrive a collaborative and supportive work environment, actively seeking out opportunities to develop team members

Qualifications:

2-3+ years for Associate & 5+ years for Vice President relevant work experience preferredBachelor’s or equivalent degree with strong record of academic achievement; MBA desirableAsset management industry expertise and/or management consulting experience strongly preferred; consideration will also be given to candidates with expertise in investing / private markets, wealth management, financial technology, investment banking (particularly financial institution focused), and/or broader financial servicesTrack record of identifying opportunities, building strategies, and driving change through creativity and focused execution, with a demonstrated ability and predilection to “get things done”Experience leading and / or contributing to cross-functional project teamsExcellent problem-solving skills, both conceptual and analyticalExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal (i.e., PowerPoint presentations, memo writing)Familiarity with financial statements, valuation and financial modellingStudent of the markets: demonstrated curiosity around macro trends, current events, and BlackRock prioritiesStrong interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships and work with professionals at all levels and departments within the organizationSelf-starter and passionate storyteller with a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and the ability to independently drive work and ideas forwardKnowledge of and exposure to BlackRock’s businesses and ecosystem is a plus: e.g., retail distribution, institutional distribution, ETFs, wealth management, marketing, alternatives, portfolio management and capital markets, and trading


For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $137,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model
