Associate VP Facilities Operations

To provide region complex operational planning, and management of multiple acute campuses, ambulatory surgery centers, all non-acute real estate, and other support facilities. Responsible for facility operations execution of strategies to achieve key business objectives, key decision making that impacts Facilities to include maintenance and engineering and allocation of financial resources. The position will develop strategies to better position Advocate Health for the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare facilities in the 21st Century.  ​ 

​Specific activities will include the development and/or improvement of: maintenance and engineering standards, process improvement, budgeting and cost reductions, quality control measures, customer relations mechanisms, associate development and training.  ​ 

​Additionally, will develop both strategic and discretionary capital priorities working closely with senior leaders in the region to prioritize needs and secure appropriate funding. Will work collaboratively with planning, design & construction (PD&C) to ensure efficient & effective MEP/FP designs, and confirm that new/renovation projects are maintainable. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction in achieving outcomes consistent with Advocate Health’s mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives.    ​

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

​​​Safety: 

​Ensure a culture of safety persists within the Facilities department and aligns with our enterprise values and being a patient centric organization.

​​Customer Service: 

​Consistently monitors customer satisfaction, assesses customer needs, communicates effectively, and implements change as required to exceed customer expectations. 

​Sees that code requirements are consistently implemented. 

​​ 

​​Quality: 

​Ensures that area directors coordinate all functions to provide a smooth, integrated operation that evolves in response to changes in the health care environment. 

​Develops systems to continuously monitor the quality, safety, and appropriateness of services provided. Participates with their direct reports and other facilities personnel to assess, plan, and implement changes as required to achieve optimal outcomes. 

​​ 

​​Operations Excellence: 

​Provides leadership and direction through directors, managers and supervisors to accomplish enterprise and site facilities goals and objectives. 

​Uses benchmarking to improve operations by implementing innovative ideas from other facility groups and other industries. Shares insights with the rest of the executive team. 

​Initiates and develops strategic infrastructure & energy plans for each facility and updates the plan annually in conjunction with the Enterprise Goals and reviews the plan with Facilities VP annually. 

​Provides status information related operations, and issues / problems to VP and site customers as appropriate. 

​Plans, implements, and evaluates projects, services, policies, and procedures in order to enhance facilities performance improvement. 

​Works cooperatively with other support services departments and divisions. Assures effective communications occur between their departments and others within AH.  

​Ensures that all Advocate Health facilities are maintained to a high level of quality allowing clinicians and support teams to fulfill its mission to provide quality care to patients. 

Human Resources:

Serves as a role model in all aspects of job performance and human relations skills, embodying the AH culture of safety, caring, commitment, integrity, teamwork, and service recovery. 

Facilitates regular and consistent department communication within the leadership team to exchange information and promote dialogue. 

When needed, helps develop unique recruitment/retention initiatives and recognition/reward systems to meet manpower needs and build a stable and competent workforce. 

Promotes staff development through performance evaluation, coaching, identifying development goals, and arranging educational opportunities that enhance and encourage continued professional growth among staff. 

Responsible for selecting, developing, mentoring, and reviewing the performance of direct reports. 

Demonstrates expertise in realigning staff and other resources to respond to service demands without compromising the overall operational effectiveness of the services provided. 

Promotes staff development through performance evaluation, coaching, goal setting, and educational opportunities that enhance and encourage continued professional growth among staff.   

Ensures successful facilities operations by an educated and competent staff.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

License/Registration/Certification Required: Strongly prefer industry certification/license such as CHFM, CHMM, PE, etcEducation Required: ​ ​Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in Engineering, Construction Management, Healthcare Management or related field.Experience Required: Typically requires ten years of work experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.  Preferably in a healthcare environment.  Prefer demonstrated success in a senior leadership role; must understand business accounting and finance principles and be able to interpret financial reports.  Must have excellent presentation skills and be poised in working environments that include facility leaders, enterprise leaders, and service line teammates.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

​​​Knowledge of state and local regulatory agency requirements; knowledge of building codes related to facilities safety and knowledge of standards related to accreditation agencies.  ​Experience and knowledge of health care environments with strong emphasis on regulatory compliance and environmental safety ​Skills and demonstrated experience in establishing excellent working relationships and partnering with various teams and levels of leadership across a large organization to achieve a shared vision and objectives. ​Excellent written and verbal communication along with exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.  ​Knowledge of health care delivery and dynamics within a large integrated health care system.  ​Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications. ​Must understand business accounting principles and be able to interpret financial reports.  ​Must be competent in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and have a working understanding of computers, file back-up and templates.  ​Must have excellent presentation skills and be poised in work both with facility administrators and senior leaders within the enterprise.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

​​​This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.  ​Exposed to a normal office environment. ​Critical thinking and ability to concentrate for long periods of time.  ​Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately in stressful situations​​.
