Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: The Director of the Speech Pathology division will be responsible for program management of the clinical and business management practices, planning mechanisms, control systems, and organization necessary for the management Speech Pathology. This includes oversight of management of Outpatient and Inpatient Speech services including inpatient acute care, acute rehabilitation and WCC. Develops and administers educational programs and oversees activities and related accreditation in collaboration with University stakeholders. Responsible for managing both inpatient and outpatient staff with the assistance of subordinate supervisors/senior staff. **RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Direct Patient Care including performing and interpreting speech and language evaluations of patients and subsequent planning and providing therapies and intervention. Provides counseling, education, and guidance to patients and their families regarding disorder(s). Adapts existing resources to meet patient and caregiver needs. + Consults for complex patients, such as those with neurological disorders, voice disorders and closed head/traumatic brain injuries. Performs and interprets specialized tests for highly complex patients. + Maintains comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) for each patient. Communicates through written reports, flowsheet documentation, and other EMR specific tools. + Develops and implements services in response to physician and patient needs. Ensures appropriate use and growth of the Department’s services through marketing of programs to patients and physicians. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with referring physicians and other departments to ensure optimum patient care and effective delivery of service. + Recommends changes in standard clinical care practices. + Responsible for the cohesive function of the Speech Pathology Department and oversees both inpatient and outpatient services with the assistance of the Inpatient and Outpatient Speech Pathology Managers and other staff + Develops and implements Departmental management objectives. Oversees professional, technical and support staff in the Division of Speech Pathology which includes both inpatient and outpatient services. Responsible for hiring, new staff, evaluating staff performance, conducting yearly reviews and recommending promotions and salary adjustments as needed. Responsible for directing the training and orientation of new staff. + Develops and monitors the Division’s budget and manages expenditures. Develops, monitors and ensures compliance with Department’s billing and revenue collection policies and procedures. Maintains fiscal responsibility for Department’s financial activities. Evaluates need for capital expenses and makes recommendations for new or replacement equipment. + Develops and implements clinical programs for the Department in response to Physician and patient needs. Develops and implements Departmental management objectives. Prepares, maintains, oversees and evaluates departmental policies and procedures. + Maintains a quality assurance process to ensure delivery of optimal patient care. Evaluates the effectiveness of the Department’s operating procedures and ensures a cooperative working relationship with Hospital departments and recommends changes when appropriate to ensure optimum patient care and efficient delivery of services. + Prepares, maintains and evaluates policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory, Hospital and University policies and requirements, including JCAHO, Department of Health and other external regulatory organizations. + Oversees and/or establishes educational programs related to the Division including Graduate education. Participates in educational and research activities in the Department and in collaboration with URMC Departments or external stakeholders. Other Duties as Assigned **QUALIFICATIONS:** + Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required. + Ph.D.in Speech-Language Pathology preferred. + 5 years of experience in Speech-Language Pathology in an academic setting required. + 3 years of supervisory experience in an academic setting preferred. + Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities required.
