Job Details Assistant Head Nurse: Assigns appropriate number and mix of nursing personnel required to meet the identified patient’s needs for nursing care. Reassesses and adjusts staffing and assignments as needed, for their shift. Assists in the direction of the overall operation of the unit. Identifies unit and/or equipment problems for Director, Engineering/Biomedical, and Housekeeping. Responsible for ordering, inventory and supply management for the wound care center. Assess patients during shift by making rounds, directing and communicating with nursing staff/patients/family/significant other, focusing on actual or potential nursing problems. Coordinate workflow in terms of patient care, staff relations and adherence to hospital policies, rules and labor relations policies for the shift. Prepares monthly staffing schedule and issues assignments for patient care unit to ensure continuity of care and acuity level needs. Demonstrates professionalism, flexibility and organization in ability to manage multiple problems and situations and set priorities. Gives input in formulating patient policies, nursing standards, and procedures for Nursing Department and the organization; works with the Medical Staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care. Is knowledgeable, maintains and enforces policies and procedures of the Hospital, Nursing Department and labor relations policies of the hospital. Oversees and cooperates with clinical instructors in the planning and implementation of nursing students’ clinical experience, if applicable. Notifies Program Director and/or Director of Nursing of any issue necessitating administrative awareness. Follows up on problems, complaints, issues and concerns on the unit, in a timely manner for the shift. Utilizes and promotes CQI standards and studies on the units. Participates in committees both nursing and hospital-wide. Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills in crisis intervention and/or conflict resolution when interacting with patient, staff and physicians. Identifies educational needs of nursing staff and makes recommendations to correct deficiencies to the Program Director or Director of Nursing. Serves as a liaison between M.D., patients/staff/family or significant other to provide optimal coordination of care on their shift. Maintains established departmental/hospital policies and procedures for quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control. Demonstrates knowledge and compliance to all regulatory privacy standards (e.g. Hospital, HIPAA, JACHO). Maintains customer (internal & external) privacy (protects computerized data, refers to patient name and/or healthcare issues on a need to know basis, avoids gossip). EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing; BSN is preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional in New York State. BLS Required. 2 years of wound care experience preferred. Wound care certification strongly preferred. Salary Range USD $57.22 - USD $65.68 /Hr.
