**Job Description**
1. Provide leadership in the development, management and administration of the intercollegiate athletics program aligned with the philosophy, mission and vision of Winona State University, NCAA, Division II Life in the Balance, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and Title IX.
+ Develop strategic plans for athletics aligned with university strategy.
+ Develop and maintain an assessment program to support effective decision making.
+ Ensure compliance with all federal, state and institutional mandates.
+ Monitor a budget of approximately $6.5 million
+ Implement and evaluate the department’s Title IX plan.
+ Oversee the scheduling of facilities under the management of Warrior Athletics, including Memorial Hall.
2. Provide direction and support for coaches and administrative personnel within University Athletics to ensure that the University’s teams are competitive and operate within ethical and legal guidelines.
+ Provide leadership and guidance to all areas within athletics, including Athletics (Compliance, Communications, Development), Student Athlete Services, Athletic Training, Baseball (M), Basketball (M/W), Cross Country (M/W), Football (M), Gymnastics (W – DIII), Golf (M/W), Soccer (W), Softball (W), Tennis (W), Track and Field (W), Volleyball (W).
+ Foster collaboration among areas to create a seamless student athlete experience from recruitment through graduation.
+ Support the professional development of coaches, administrative faculty and staff.
+ Participate in all personnel activities including recruitment, searches, supervision and annual evaluations of coaches, administrative faculty and staff.
+ Encourage and provide for the effective development and professional advancement of assistant coaches.
+ Model ethical behavior in all activities.
3. Foster campus and community engagement with University Athletics, and represent University Athletics to internal and external constituencies
+ Ensure a creditable reputation for WSU with regional high school coaches and educators to provide a firm foundation for recruitment.
+ Maintain successful liaisons with the University’s students, faculty and staff in support of athletics.
+ Maintain a leadership role for WSU within the associations and conferences of which it is a member.
+ Expand the involvement of alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, boosters and other friends of the University in departmental activities including attendance at competitions and support-building initiatives.
+ Committee membership and involvement include Warrior Club, Student Athlete Success Center, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Morrie Miller Foundation, City of Winona, Winona area school districts, and the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.
+ Serve as a visible advocate for student success, representing the university at local, state, and national events.
+ Build partnerships with community organizations, K-12 schools, and two-year community and/or technical colleges to strengthen pathways to higher education.
4. Ensure the provision of a successful athletic and academic experience for student athletes in compliance with NCAA.
+ Maintain the ethical recruiting of students who meet the admission requirements at Winona State University.
+ Provide for full NCAA compliance in the activities of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and athletics boosters.
+ Provide for an effective student role model within University Athletics.
+ Sustain working relationships with the Warrior Club and the Student Athlete Success Center.
+ Promote the development of students’ individual and collaborative skills within their sport.
+ Contribute to the expansion of student athletes’ sense of self-worth and responsibility to others.
5. Budget and Resource Management
+ Develop and manage the University Athletic budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support strategic goals.
+ Secure external funding and partnerships to enhance athletic and student athlete success initiatives.
+ Direct and manage an effective marketing and fund-raising program in cooperation with University Advancement, WSU Foundation and Warrior Club.
**6. Institutional Leadership**
+ Participate in the management of the University as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Council of Administrators.
+ Participate in institutional planning, policy making, and leadership of the university.
7. Other Responsibilities
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the President and/or the Vice President of University Advancement to advance the mission of the university.
**Minimum Qualifications**
1. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Athletics Administration, Sports Management or related field.
2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a complex organization that serves multiple constituencies.
3. Evidence of skills in fiscal planning, budget management, and personnel management.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and stakeholders in fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
**Preferred Qualification**
1. Experience with NCAA Division II athletics.
2. Administrative experience.
3. Experience working within a collective bargaining environment.
4. Experience fostering effective strategies for recruitment, retention, and success for varied student athlete populations.
5. Experience in transformational strategy development for budgeting and facility enhancements.
