Athletic Trainer - Physician Office - Piedmont Ortho

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Distributes durable medical equipment and educates patients on usage according to the request of the ordering physician. Renders care to patients and assists staff as required by providers.

           

Employment Qualifications

Education:       Minimum of bachelor’s degree in health related field from an accredited Athletic Trainer Certified Program.

Licensure, Registration, or Certification:

Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) 

Must be certified by or eligible for certification in as an Athletic Trainer in the state of South Carolina.

Must maintain current CPR certification.

Practice Requirements: Currently meets all state regulatory or licensing requirements.

Experience:     Minimum one year athletic training experience preferred. Entry-level graduates with NATA BOC certification will be considered.

Essential Job Functions

Works directly with patient populations in the community, providing athletic training care to those involved by: Demonstrating advanced skills if evaluation and treatment in the area of athletic training Working under the supervision of a physician when treating patients in the clinical setting Assessing patient response to treatment, modifying when appropriate with input from the supervisor Participating in discharge planning and follow-up care with patient when necessary Provide and fit patients with durable medical equipment as ordered by physician. Applying and removing casts to/from patients as ordered by physicians. Complies with departmental policies for documentation by completing paperwork in both a timely and accurate manner. Develops and manages educational programs for the patient population in regards to their DME, casting or other appropriate treatment in the office including fit and usage. Functions as a team member and works effectively with other health care professionals. Represents St. Francis in facility, community, medical staff and other activities by: Serving on committees as requested Attending staff meetings when appropriate Provides ongoing athletic training services. Handling supplies for the office as required; including ordering, stocking halls and carts Displays courtesy, consideration and respect for patients, physicians, co-workers, administration, etc. Precertification and authorization of appropriate equipment in office. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.   Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Provides patient care to pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics

Other Job Functions

Maintains a basic knowledge of standard physical therapy equipment, modalities, weight equipment, etc. Develops handouts, forms and instructional/educational sheets for the patient’s care. Assists in program development. Other duties as assigned.
