We seek a motivated and accomplished leader to serve as the Department’sAttorney 2for the Division of Higher Education. Your Responsibilities: Perform administrative/professional legal work representing the Department of Education’s higher education division, with the exception of the board of law examiners: + Assist director, division administrator, general counsel, and staff with legal functions of the Department. + Research legal issues and provide legal advice, in conjunction with the attorney general’s office and the Department’s general counsel. + Act as an attorney for the Iowa College Student Aid Commission, in conjunction with the attorney general’s office and the Department’s general counsel. + Provide information, Q & A's, and professional development on selected legal issues. + Make recommendations related to needed legislative changes in the Code, review proposed + legislation, and help interpret newly passed legislation. + Participate in the Department’s legal team. + Other duties as by the director or the division administrator. Review contracts, agreements and other legal documents as assigned. Assist the Department’s CFO, bureau of accounting, and general counsel in maintaining and monitoring the contracting and grant awarding processes, including making suggestions for improvement or legal compliance. Provide analysis and legal guidance on unique policy proposals and interpretations impacting agency priorities and execute other duties as assigned. Assist the Department’s communications team and general counsel in responding to requests under Iowa Code chapters 21 and 22, including legal review of open records requests.
