Attorney - Defense Litigation (48572)
Our client, a highly regarded Houston area law firm, seeks a defense litigation associate who possesses a strong desire to try lawsuits, displays a disciplined work ethic, and takes ownership of tasks assigned to them. As a litigation associate, you will work closely with partners and senior associates on serious personal injury defense lawsuits and complex commercial litigation matters; conduct legal research, draft pleadings and motions, draft discovery requests and responses, review documents and oversee their production, depose (and sometimes prepare others to depose) fact and expert witnesses, participate in strategy sessions, prepare cases for trial, and actively participate in trial.

 

Responsibilities:

Assist with all stages of litigation, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and trials. Conduct legal research and draft memoranda and briefs on a variety of legal issues. Work collaboratively with partners and senior associates to develop and implement litigation strategies. Communicate with clients and opposing counsel in a professional and effective manner. Take ownership of assigned tasks and ensure that they are completed accurately and on time. Demonstrate discipline and attention to detail in all aspects of work, including time management, organization, and document review. Attend and participate in depositions, hearings, and trials as needed.

Requirements:

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with excellent credentials (top 25% of class preferred). Admitted to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing. Minimum of 2 years of defense litigation experience, including deposition and courtroom experience.  Demonstrated desire to try lawsuits and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Excellent legal research and writing skills. Clerkship experience preferred.
