Attorney/Lawyer
Description We are offering a long-term contract employment opportunity for an Attorney/Lawyer in Plantation, Florida. This role is within the nonprofit sector and primarily focuses on consumer and housing law. The position can be performed either on-site or in a hybrid format, depending on the needs of the organization. This is a hybrid role. Responsibilities: • Conduct in-depth client intake interviews and manage client-related phone calls. • Advise clients on housing and consumer law issues, informing them of their legal rights. • Conduct legal research and analyze statutes and relevant case law. • Evaluate potential outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedence. • Develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presenting cases. • Handle client documents and prepare legal documents for clients' housing and consumer law cases. • Attend court hearings and trials, representing clients in court. • Engage in the process of discovery and depositions. • Supervise paralegals, assign tasks, review all legal work and monitor workload. • Communicate case progress, status, issues and outcomes to supervising attorneys. • Participate in community outreach events in-person and virtually, as well as on social media. • Comply with program and grant requirements, maintaining records, case notes and daily time-keeping in the case management system. Key skills required for this position include a background in Consumer Law and Fair Housing Law, the ability to draft legal documents, and experience in legal research, client intake, and discovery. Requirements • Must hold a law degree from an accredited law school • Must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as an Attorney or Lawyer • Litigation experience, preferably in foreclosure and/or eviction defense • Proficiency in Consumer, and Fair Housing Law • Experience in drafting legal documents • Strong skills in legal research • Experience with client intake processes • Familiarity with the discovery process in legal proceedings • Excellent interpersonal skills for client interaction • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • High level of integrity and professional accountability • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines • Proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.
