Description We are seeking a detail-oriented Attorney/Lawyer to join our firm located in Springfield, Illinois. The key function of this role is defending workers' compensation and general liability cases. The selected candidate will be responsible for gathering medical evidence, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and representing the interests of the employer at various legal proceedings.
Responsibilities
• Gather medical evidence and records to support case arguments
• Conduct comprehensive depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other relevant parties
• Carry out extensive legal research to stay updated with developments in the law
• Draft a wide range of legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and opinions
• Litigate cases before a judge or referee and represent the interests of the employer in hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings
• Maintain effective communication with claims representatives and monitor loss run reports for trends and increases
• Assist in the investigation of accidents and problem areas, and manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability
• Compile and submit reports as required by company management
• Negotiate settlements to resolve cases in a manner beneficial to the company
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills
• Proficiency in Case Management Software and Legal software
• Experience in Briefing and Civil Litigation
• Knowledge of Claim Administration and Complaint Handling
• Ability to handle Documentation and Defense Litigation
• Familiarity with Litigation Attorney duties and Workers Comp Law. Requirements • Proficiency in Case Management Software and other Legal software
• Demonstrated experience in Briefing and Civil Litigation
• Proven ability to handle Claim Administration and Complaint Handling
• Strong Documentation skills
• Experience in Defense Litigation
• Experience as a Litigation Attorney
• Familiarity with Workers Comp Law
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Admitted to the state bar
• Excellent negotiation, research, and communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
• High level of professional ethics and integrity
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
