Description We are seeking a seasoned Coverage Attorney to assist with managing coverage opinions and coverage litigation with a focus on Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance policies. The attorney will provide clarity and strategy to clients regarding insurance coverage matters and actively participate in litigation to capably protect client interests. The role primarily involves serving excess and surplus lines insurance clients in matters covering primarily New York and New Jersey. Key Responsibilities: 1. Coverage Analysis and Opinions: • Analyze and interpret CGL insurance policies and complex claims to provide comprehensive and accurate legal opinions. • Counsel clients on coverage assessments, exclusions, and obligations under policies. 2. Coverage Litigation: • Represent clients in coverage-related litigation, including declaratory judgment actions and disputes over policy interpretation. • Draft and argue motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents for state and federal courts in NY and NJ. • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations as necessary. 3. Client Representation: • Advocate for excess and surplus line insurance clients, ensuring their interests are effectively represented in all stages of coverage disputes. • Develop strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and delivering proactive solutions. 4. Case Management: • Work collaboratively with the firm’s attorneys, paralegals, and staff in managing a busy caseload of coverage matters. • Maintain deadlines and compliance with court regulations across NY and NJ jurisdictions. 5. Collaboration and Firm Growth: • Actively engage with the firm's collaborative culture of sharing knowledge and ideas. • Contribute to the firm’s continued growth and success in the insurance coverage space. Qualifications: • Experience: o Minimum of 2-3 years of experience handling insurance coverage opinions and coverage litigation with a focus on CGL policies. o Strong background working with excess and surplus lines insurance clients is essential. • Bar Admission: o Active admission to the New York State Bar is required; New Jersey Bar admission strongly preferred. • Skills: o Expertise in interpreting and litigating insurance policies, including exclusions and obligations. o Proficient in legal research, drafting, and courtroom advocacy. o Strong written and oral communication skills. o Ability to manage a heavy caseload and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge: o Extensive familiarity with state and federal insurance laws and procedural rules in NY and NJ. Requirements • Candidate must hold a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. • Must have a valid license to practice law. • Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience as an attorney or lawyer. • Demonstrated expertise in document management is essential. • Proven experience in briefing and preparing legal documents. • Prior experience in civil litigation is a must. • Knowledge of claim administration processes is required. • The candidate should have a strong background in complaint handling. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Exceptional negotiation skills are required. • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. • Proficiency with legal research tools and software is a plus.
