Audio Technician - College of Fine Arts (CFA) - School of Drama

Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama is seeking applicants for a full-time, fixed-term Audio Technician. The position will begin 14 October 2024, and end 20 December 2024. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in a creative and fast paced work environment. This person will contribute to the department by providing essential support for physical production and events as well as helping to maintain audio equipment and infrastructure.

Core responsibilities include:Act as sound engineer and mix engineer for Mr. BurnsWork with the audio manager to install and strike sound systems for SoD productionsLead small groups of students in the tasks associated with the load-in and load-outAssist with maintenance and upkeep of shop equipmentMentoring students in the process of installing theatrical audio systems in a theater

The work of an Audio Technician often involves a need to work at heights greater than 30’, use of a ladder or personnel lift, the lifting and/or carrying of awkward and/or heavy objects and the manipulation of hand tools and equipment in small or confined spaces for short periods of time. While the ability to perform these tasks is not necessary to fulfill the primary goal of this position, if these scenarios present themselves the Audio Technician will need to be able to find alternative means of completing the tasks involved.

You should demonstrate:3 years’ experience working in audio for theatre and live eventsAbility to perform specific tasks in specific scenarios involving lifting, balance, and working at heights, or to find alternative means of completing any such tasks involved.Sufficient knowledge of Dante networked audio systems (at least level 2 certification)Proficient with QLab, DigiCo & Yamaha consoles, Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD

Qualifications:High School or GED1-3 years experience
