The Internal Audit Director – Finance and Treasury will focus on leading the Internal Audit team responsible for the Finance and Treasury functions of the bank, conducting audits in areas including Financial Reporting, Accounting Policy, FP&A, Corporate Treasury, Liquidity and Capital Management, Interest Rate Risk Management, Regulatory Reporting, and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting. The Internal Audit Director will also work collaboratively with peers to coordinate audit coverage of additional areas, including Credit Risk, Regulatory Compliance, and Data Risk.

 The Internal Audit Director is a leadership position within the US Internal Audit Department responsible for the development and execution of a risk based audit plan that addresses the significant risks relevant to the portfolio.  The Internal Audit Director develops strong relationships with our Finance and Treasury business partners to obtain an understanding of the risks facing the organization and stay close to new developments impacting the business.  Additionally, the Internal Audit Director role will be responsible for leading, directing, evaluating, and developing audit professionals to ensure audit activities are conducted to high standards of accuracy, rigor, and credibility and according to regulations and industry standards.  The Internal Audit Director will mentor and develop the Internal Audit team to ensure team members continue to progress their careers and will assist the US Head of Internal Audit in the management of the US Internal Audit Department. 

Develop a comprehensive audit plan for the portfolio that addresses key regulatory requirements / expectations and provides a sound third line of defense risk based coverageProvide oversight in the execution of the audit plan through the review of detailed project plans that effectively incorporate appropriate risks, scope, staffing requirements, deliverables, timelines, budgets and client availabilityDemonstrate a forward-looking mindset to anticipate what is needed to timely meet objectives and department needsOversee and manage multiple engagements at one timeParticipate in certain committees of the US Region to increase understanding and awareness of current issues and new developmentsGuide department personnel in their careers and provide learning opportunities through coaching and mentoring activitiesCollaborate with team members in Enterprise Internal Audit to ensure a consistent approach to auditing risk and ensure there is a robust exchange of information and ideasProvide guidance to the team in all phases of an audit as neededExpand the operational audit team’s knowledge of key banking requirements / regulatory expectations in the areas of risk management, Finance, and TreasuryPrepare or review meaningful, relevant, and well-supported audit reportsEffectively communicate findings to various levels of managementTranslate broad business strategies and key initiatives within assigned areas into effective, risk sensitive audit plansAssist the Head of Internal Audit US Region in executing and evolving department strategy and governanceSet the proper tone and culture for the departmentContribute to the positive, inclusive, and team-oriented culture by maintaining cooperative relationships (assisting other project teams when necessary), facilitating the resolution of conflicts, sharing information, and accepting and providing feedbackWork closely with management to promptly resolve any concerns that may arise and build trust. Serve as a business advisor and partner by providing the business unit and senior management with advice related to business issues and controlsDemonstrate commitment to professional growth by assuming progressively more challenging assignments (in-line with standard audit career progression), proactively seeking relevant education and training opportunities, and expanding professional networkEnsure compliance with IIA Standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related fieldProfessional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)Experience working in an Internal Audit department at a large US bank, large foreign banking organization, or at a banking regulatory agency with experience overseeing large US banksStrong knowledge of US banking regulations, including Regulation YY15+ years of relevant experienceAbility to work independently in areas of difficult or complex natureProject management skills, including the ability to manage shifting prioritiesStrong analytical, written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skillsHigh level of expertise in collaboration and communication with internal and external partiesExemplify a positive attitude, strong work ethic, team work and professionalismAbility to travel (5-20%, depending on location)

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package.  This role has an expected salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 for the New York, New York market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position.  The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
