Author Trainer – Math Content Development - Simon Initiative
The Simon Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an Author Trainer – Math Content Development to play a pivotal role in guiding the creation of dynamic, interactive learning experiences for math courses. This role is critical to ensuring the quality, consistency, and pedagogical effectiveness of digital learning resources, including digital textbooks, homework assignments, and assessments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in math education, a deep understanding of effective instructional strategies, and experience in training and mentoring content authors to deliver exceptional learning experiences.

As part of the team, you will work closely with content developers, instructional designers, and engineers to develop modern, mobile-first math educational materials that engage students and facilitate mastery of complex concepts.

Core responsibilities include:

Authoring Support and Mentorship: Train, coach, and provide feedback to content authors to apply instructional design principles aligned with modern pedagogical best practices.Instructional Strategy Development: Design and implement active learning strategies optimized for a mobile-first platform.Content Oversight: Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure math content is accurate, relevant, and high-quality.Peer Review: Coordinate interdisciplinary peer reviews to maintain content quality through constructive feedback and collaboration.Accessibility and Inclusivity: Ensure all learning resources meet accessibility and inclusivity standards, working closely with technology teams to integrate these features.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication between content creators, instructional designers, and technical teams to deliver cohesive, innovative materials.Professional Development: Lead workshops, mentoring, and community-building initiatives to support content creators’ growth and adherence to best practices.Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on educational trends and refine content creation guidelines to align with emerging technologies and pedagogical advancements.

You should demonstrate:

Strong communication skills for clearly conveying complex ideas.Passion for enhancing STEM education and student outcomes through innovative digital tools.Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects and timelines.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science) with a strong foundation in pedagogy and instructional design.Experience teaching or applying STEM concepts in higher education.Skilled in creating interactive, digital, or mobile-first educational content, including assessments and multimedia.Experience mentoring or training educators in professional development contexts.Familiarity with interactive learning platforms and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508).Experience in cross-functional teams, especially in publishing or EdTech.Knowledge of programming tools like Python, MATLAB, or similar STEM software.A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.Funding: This is a grant-funded position.
 Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position with an estimated duration through June 30, 2025.
