AutoCAD Drafter

The CAD Designer is responsible for the drafting of utility designs based on client standards and requirements.  This role works closely with the project managers within our engineering department.  This position is responsible for producing job sketches for utility designs.    

 

The pay range for this role $30-$36/hour depending on expercience

What You'll Do Draft utility designs overseen by a distribution engineer.    Analyze line design data captured in a job workbook to produce job sketch for utility.  Convert preliminary designs for facility replacement system upgrades to standardized mapping products in the GIS/CAD mapping environment. Work areas mapped will be large: up to 20+ work locations.  Evaluate and improve cartographic processes.  Improve existing or develop new GIS/CAD production processes to meet new cartographic products and requirements.  Working knowledge of NESC, distribution electric design, voltage regulation, electrical load calculations, system protection, and fuse coordination for distribution systems.  Learn specialized mapping assignments.    Assist newer co-workers in learning specific mapping tasks.    Understand and execute as-built mapping.  Utilize customer’s internal computer programs for job task completion, required submittal forms, material entry, and by working in a GIS/CAD mapping environment.  Manage timelines for job sketch production to ensure timely turnaround by project priority level.  Participate in regular training on process updates.  Performs and completes other duties as assigned or requested.   What You'll Bring

Minimum Qualifications: 

Associate degree or certificate program from an accredited educational institution is preferred and/or training in lieu of education or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Highly motivated, well organized, resourceful, and proactive with a tenacious and empowering team orientated style.  Ability to be flexible as work priorities often shift and must be reshuffled.  Basic knowledge of voltage regulation, electrical load calculations, system protection, and fuse coordination for distribution systems.  Demonstrated ability to read and interpret utility mapping systems and civil construction drawings.  Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals and information, journals, technical procedures, and data.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as those commonly found in business transactions.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Proficient in the GIS/CAD software environment and MS Office tools.  Demonstrated ability to interact with databases such as Maximo, WebCentral, etc.  Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and engineering principles.    Ability to be flexible, and highly organized with a strong orientation to detail/quality work.  Strong interpersonal and speaking skills are required.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:
