As an Automation Engineer specializing in controls, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting, programming, and improving automation systems. Your work will directly impact the efficiency, quality, and delivery of the production processes.
ResponsibilitiesUse Vis Plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation and follow up on automation projects and installations.Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation problems.Update program backups for automation.Program new installations of body tooling and conveyor systems.Reprogram automation for engineering changes and improvements.Coordinate automation campaigns.Essential SkillsFundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls (RSLogix).Experience with Allen Bradley Panel View use/programming, AB Servo, and AB VFD drives.Familiarity with VFDs, Armor starts, encoders, and network/Ethernet controls.2+ years of related experience.Strong problem-solving skills including 8Ds and DMAICs.Ability to independently troubleshoot all body equipment and continuously evaluate equipment for improvement.Fanuc robot experience.Experience with Kawasaki programming, RS Logics, Microsoft Office, and PLC.Ability to read prints, AutoCAD, and interpret and modify electrical schematics.Experience in laser burning.Strong understanding of conveyor system programming and body tooling techniques, including networking understanding (DH+, Ethernet, remote IO).Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.Proficiency in Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.Experience with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology.Experience with TQM, PPAP, and DOEs.Visual Factory Management experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.Experience with simulation modeling.Ability to read blueprints.Work Environment
A very large site spanning nearly 70 acres with a significant number of Fanuc and Kawasaki robots. The work environment is fast-paced with a high sense of urgency. The role is fully on-site, and you must be available to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required. Safety training and personal protective equipment are mandatory.
