Automation Engineer
Job Title: Automation EngineerJob Description Develop and maintain process control automation solutions for Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), PLCs, Building Management Systems (BMS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA). Perform automation activities such as code configuration, document development, and test execution across several process areas. Ensure compliance with Quality Management System requirements by developing and completing Deviation Reports, CAPAs, and Change Controls. Responsibilities + Develop standard code utilizing control strategies. + Generate, review, and maintain various specification documents (e.g., user requirements specification (URS), functional specification (FS), design qualification (DQ)). + Build scope of work documents for internal and external partners. + Collaborate with departments such as Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Validation. + Conduct training sessions and present information to the team or stakeholders. + Lead and support new product and technology introductions through automation engineering assessments, system configuration changes, and supporting engineering and process qualification runs. + Manage day-to-day operational support including on-call support, troubleshooting, system administration, preventative and corrective maintenance, and spare parts management. + Provide clear documentation for delivered solutions and processes; support computerized systems validation processes in a GxP environment. + Maintain Data Integrity Assessments in accordance with current CFR and industry standards. + Ensure modifications, installations, preventative maintenance, operational support, or troubleshooting activities are properly completed and documented. + Work closely with the Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) team to ensure equipment compatibility with network protocols and security standards. + Lead projects, facilitate meetings, and maintain consistent professional communication across all organizational levels. + Coordinate contracted service providers and manage contracts to ensure regulatory compliance and appropriate service levels at acceptable costs. + Establish agreements to ensure coverage of critical systems. + Handle responsibilities at multiple locations in central Ohio (Columbus and Dublin). + Express thoughts clearly and concisely in written procedures, protocols, and reports. + Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field. + Minimum of 3 years of experience in Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or a related technical field. + Understanding and experience in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of manufacturing process controls, automation, and field instrumentation technologies. + Experience with Process Control Network design including network segregation, Virtual Infrastructure design and implementation, troubleshooting activities, system integration using OPC, and DeviceNet technologies. + Experience in Capital Project Lifecycle Management, including conceptual design, scope and cost estimate development, detailed design, engineering and validation documentation, and project implementation. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry is preferred. + Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Work Environment The Automation Engineer is part of the Facilities and Engineering (F&E) team and will support Cell and Gene Therapy development and manufacturing facilities in Dublin and Columbus, Ohio. This includes implementing changes to automation systems, updating design documents, executing testing, troubleshooting events, and being part of on-call support. The role focuses on delivering automated solutions for Process Development, Downstream/Upstream process, Facilities/Utilities, Warehouse, and areas including Lab, Media Preparation, Seed Culture, Small/Large Scale Bioreactors, and Harvest. The company has recently expanded to three buildings with over 250,000 square feet of space, offering invaluable experience in developing life-saving therapies. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
