Automation Engineer

Job Summary

The role of an Automation Engineer involves implementing and testing changes to automation systems, supporting and maintaining these systems, and making proposals for improvements. Automation systems can be in the Operational Technology area or Information Technology area.

Key responsibilities include providing technical services for automation and process control, identifying process control improvement opportunities, and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical and instrumentation facilities. The role requires strong programming skills and electrical knowledge.

Leading the site automation and control system

Develop automated systems and machinery to improve manufacturing processes and reduce human intervention

Design, write and test software programs that control automated systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and accurately. Depending on the scale of the project it may or may not involve contractor.

Integrate various systems and machinery to work together seamlessly, enhancing overall plant efficiency

Conduct tests and simulations to ensure automated systems function correctly and meet performance standards

Be the main contact for Automation related questions and requests.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Monitor automated systems, perform regular maintenance, and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime

Maintain detailed documentation of automation processes, including design specifications, test results, and maintenance records

Perform instrument calibration

Coordinate with internal customers (Production, WH, etc.) and manage the resources for repair activities to ensure they are completed promptly and do not disrupt production schedules. Resources can be internal or third-party contractors.

Work in close collaboration with IT department

Support E&M Technician with automation related issues

Continuous Improvement

Stay updated with the latest automation technologies and implement improvements to enhance system performance and efficiency

Work closely with other departments, such as production, EHS and quality control, to align automation projects with business goals

Develop SOP and training plan related to instrumentation and control system

Create SOP or training document and metrics for automation, control and the related calibration.

Arrange certification related to Automation and Instrumentation to the 3rd party if necessary.

Job Requirements

Minimum Diploma degree in electrical, electronic engineering or Industrial Automation Engineering.

Min 5 years’ experience in programming PLC & Scada.

Intermediate electrical knowledge: understanding electrical systems and the safety risk and precaution

Intermediate instrumentation and control system knowledge: understanding of process control and interlock system

Fluent Dutch and English speaking and writing

Good understanding of ATEX regulations

Good understanding of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

Other Proficiencies and requirements:

Good knowledge or experience in food, pharma operations such as GMP and food safety is required.

Perseverance when performing the role, there is a dependency with many contributors.

Be able to determine own agenda, prioritizing when needed.

Hands on, can-do mentality. Capable of learning new skills or technologies when needed.
