Position Description
Primary Purpose:
Upgrade HMI nodes utilized in the operation of natural gas pipeline compressor stations and related facilities to the latest versions of Microsoft Windows and AVEVA Wonderware HMI software and to upgrade Allen Bradley ControlLogix processors and associated communications modules to the latest firmware versions.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct investigations as required to determine the existing station automation architecture and software installation status.Collaborate with Kinder Morgan IT Staff to develop base PC software images for HMI installations.Configure and customize the HMI software to each specific station application, following Kinder Morgan HMI and PLC programming and development standards.Oversee delivery of hardware and software to the site and track installation progress.Provide engineering support to Operations and Technical Support Personnel for installation and/or implementation of all related software and hardware.Provide on-site services, including oversight of system installation, leading commissioning efforts and supplying troubleshooting support as required.Develop and control project scope, schedule, projected costs, risk management, and quality assurance programs as required.Maintenance of database of automation related assets and equipment (PLCs, HMIs. OITs, etc.).As required, assist in HMI and PLC software development activities for other full Compressor Station automation projects.As required, assist with on-site HMI and PLC commissioning activities for other full Compressor Station automation projects.Accountable for completing tasks with quality, in compliance with applicable codes and standards, and on schedule. Position Requirements
Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited university. Five years commensurate experience with emphasis in compressor station automation design, project management and technical analysis as described may be acceptable in lieu of engineering degree.Minimum of three years of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Systems Integration or related/applicable experience. Experience should be heavily weighted towards programming, commissioning and maintaining complex industrial control systems.Extensive, proven experience in successfully programming Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLC systems.Proven experience in configuring and developing HMI applications in various versions of Wonderware/Aveva InTouch and in utilizing ArchestrA System Platform.Ability to learn additional and/or new programming languages and skills as needed.Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision.Proficiency in basic engineering skills and possession of well-developed analytical and problem solving skills to address complex technical matters.Must maintain a high degree of attention to detail while managing multiple assignments with various deadlines and responsibility levels.Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with both company and non-company personnel to accomplish goals.PC-based skills, including MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point and Project).Travel (5% - 50%), often overnight, to contractor or Kinder Morgan sites for system installation, commissioning and maintenance, as well as to attend meetings and conferences. Weekend travel is occasionally required.Required to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working hours and occasionally during non-working hours.Job requires ascending/descending stairs, ladders and ramps, often while carrying loads up to 20 pounds (laptop, instruments, tools, etc.), as well as the ability to reach and work above head and below waist levels.Must be aware of company and government safety regulations and maintain a high regard for the safety of company employees and assets, and the general public.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and complete a background check after an offer has been extended and prior to employment.
Preferred:
Knowledge and experience in the design and operation of automation systems for natural gas facilities, including compressor stations, storage facilities and processing facilities.Experience in designing and implementing communications networks, utilizing a variety of communication protocols, including but not limited to Ethernet, ControlNet, DH+, DF-1, Modbus and Profibus.Experience with designing and specifying physical media used in communications, including but not limited to copper cabling, fiber optic cabling and radio transmission.Design and construction knowledge of electrical hazardous area applications (Class 1, Div 1 and 2).Knowledge and/or application experience with national and international instrument, electrical and controls standards.Specific knowledge and application experience as a project manager in a commercial environment.Working knowledge of and programming skills for the Bristol Babcock 33xx and ControlWave series of controllers.***Position may be filled at various levels depending upon experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
This position has the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule, with work conducted in the office Monday through Wednesday and work from home Thursday and Friday.This position also has the opportunity to work a flexible work schedule, with 9 hours work days Monday through Thursday and either 4 hour work days every Friday or 8 hour work days every other Friday.The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
