As an Automation Department Manager, the general role is to manage the department from a high level and resolve issues between teams.
This individual will manage projects involving multiple departments and lead the team in the interpretation of job designs, ensure the jobs are constructed according to the project plans and lead project controls to include budgeting, planning/scheduling, designing, and programming.
The Automation Department Manager will report to the Division Manager and will work primarily out of the Knoxville location.
What You'll Do Training, coaching, developing, and mentoringConducting performance reviews and regularly discuss career goals on an ongoing basisResponding to phone calls and texts after hours and on weekends within a timely mannerServing as a focal point for resolving complex or escalated issues within the teamProviding leadership to interpret client requirements, identifying and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensuring solutions are implemented accurately and within budgetManaging projects involving coordination of multiple departments, primarily Automation and Engineering unless directed differentlyAnalyzing project requirements and performing technical calculations supporting designs, including electrical requirementsAttending technical sales calls and pre-bid meetingsWorking directly with sales team in pre-sales technical concept, quoting, and budgeting activitiesBeing accountable for growth of customers and projects within AutomationResolving operational issues to minimize delays and unexpected cost increasesFacilitating and supporting manufacturing processes and control systems within OperationsProvide high quality pre-sales, design-in and post-sales technical support to customerOther Duties

What You'll Bring Valid driver’s licenseBA/BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum 5 years’ experience in process control, automation, and/or engineeringDemonstrated aptitude to lead othersProficient with MS Office productivity softwareProficient with reading and using AutoCADStrong working knowledge with Allen Bradley PLCs and RSLogix 5000,500 is preferredHMI / OIT Development experience with Rockwell and/or Wonderware is preferredStrong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systemsAbility to efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goalsCritical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skillsAble to work independently and in team environmentsProactive, resourceful and highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environmentAbility to balance multiple projects and coordinate with other departmentsGood understanding of mechanical principalsTravel as required to support projectsAble to work a flexible schedule and adjust to changing business needs to include possible work involving emergency call-out, extended hours and some out-of-town and overnight workWillingness to participate in Pillar Innovation’s Drug and Alcohol policy, which includes pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested
