Automation Technician
Position: Automation TechnicianReports to Title: Director of Engineering, NADepartment/Division: BLM EngineeringPrimary Work Location: Bloomington, MN / Shakopee, MNJob Code/Classification: Non-ExemptThe Automation Technician participates in all aspects of debugging, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automated equipment within manufacturing and operations.  Skills in control systems, electronics, robotics, and programming are essential to success in this role.  Additionally, collaboration with stakeholders throughout the enterprise is critical to help drive the adoption and sustainability of all automation. Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of robotics, vision, PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to ensure optimal functionality.Write PLC-HMI programming using various software packages.Create electrical schematics and electrical cabinet layout using CAD.  Build and wire electrical enclosures and external machine component.Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic control issues.Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting activities, and maintenance procedures.Provide electrical, mechanical, and robotic support necessary to keep all Company production equipment in good working orderOrder parts/supplies and maintain inventory accuracyPerform preventative maintenance on all company-owned robotic equipment.Ability to disassemble equipment, diagnose problems, and reassemble in a proficient mannerDesired QualificationsRequired Education:Associates degree in an associated electronics, robotics, engineering field or equivalent work experience.Experience:Automation/manufacturing experience with demonstrated ability to execute project deliverables that meet scheduling and cost requirements preferred.Experience with, or a combination of, electrical controls, schematics, PLC interfaces, robotics, vision systems, and mechanical design for automated work cells preferred.Competencies (Knowledge and Skills needed for this position.)Organized and methodical in their work, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt easily to changeKnowledge of robotics programming, operation, and robot vision preferred.Knowledge of PLC and HMI programmingStrong mechanical and electrical aptitudeStrong problem-solving, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and analytical skillsKnowledge of the concepting and design of machine electrical controls solutions, safety system integration, schematics development, bill of material development, procurement, panel building and wiring, on machine wiring, programming, and commissioning activities.Knowledge of electrical schematics development using CAD.Self-starter, able to work independently and collaborate in a manner that promotes teamwork and meets deadlines.Broad knowledge of a variety of electronic and pneumatic sensors and controlsTravel:  This position may require limited travel for new organization equipment launch and direct knowledge sharing with enterprise stakeholders.Working Environment:Our facility is in Bloomington, MN.                                 The position will be working in the Operations area. Physical Demands:Able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Able to lift 25 pounds by self and 50+ pounds with a team lift.  (i.e. Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, etc.)Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:This is a full-time position working Monday – Friday.  The daily hours are 8-10 hours per day.Ability to work occasional weekends and holidaysPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
