As an Automation Test Engineer, you will be responsible for engineering automation testing systems: specification development, design/development internal or 3rd party, commission, validation, and procedure and maintenance documentation. Automation equipment will be utilized to support the test team in repetitive process to increase laboratory efficiency, safety and development. In this role, you will help challenge the status quo in test processes, with a bias for asking why a test is necessary and devising new and automated methods when required.
What You’ll Do
Design, develop, and implement automated test frameworks and scripts for validating the performance, reliability, and safety of commercial appliances.
Develop automated testing solutions for hardware and system engineering, simulating real-world operating conditions for appliances.
Create, program, and integrate PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human-Machine Interface), and SCADA systems for automated manufacturing processes.
Work with relays, sensors, I/O modules, actuators, and other control devices to build up electrical panels and ensure smooth system operations.
Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to define and conduct FAT and SAT procedures, ensuring equipment and products meet functional specifications before deployment.
Manage end-to-end automation projects, including scope definition, resource allocation, timeline development, and budget management.
Track project progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery within budget constraints.
Develop and maintain troubleshooting documentation, including SOPs, electrical diagrams, and technical specifications.
Implement and maintain test automation tools and platforms (e.g., LabVIEW, Python-based frameworks, etc.) to ensure scalable and repeatable test processes.
Assist with implementing 5S+ principles to ensure a clean, safe, and productive laboratory environment
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, project managers, and stakeholders, to ensure project goals are met

Skills/Experience We’re Looking For
Proficiency with test automation tools such as LabVIEW, PLC programming or custom Python/C-based testing frameworks.
Experience with electrical, mechanical, or thermal testing methods and sensors used in appliance testing.
Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work
Effective communication skills and the ability to convey technical information clearly
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field and 3+ years of experience in automation and test equipment
Experience with PLC, Arduino, or similar a plus
Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron), robotics, and HMI/SCADA systems.
Strong understanding of process control, instrumentation, and automation network architectures.
Knowledge of safety standards like NFPA and OSHA is desired.
Ability to travel to different plant and vendor locations as required.
