We are committed to serving the university’s academic mission, as well as preserving and enhancing Stanford’s 8,180 acres, and pride ourselves on supporting the teaching and research of the university as “Caretakers of a LEGACY." **Job Purpose** **:** The Automotive Mechanic Lead for Electric Vehicles and Carts will be responsible for overseeing and leading the process for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electric vehicles (EVs) and electric carts. This role ensures that all EVs and carts operate efficiently and safely, while also driving the development of best practices and continuous improvement in electric vehicle technologies. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with external vendors to manage the repair and maintenance process. Employees at this level do not have supervisory authority over other employees and are not expected to exercise independent judgment on final decisions regarding quality or quantity of work produced by such employees, or personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discharge or disciplinary measures. **Core Duties** ***:** The duties listed under this section are designed to provide a representative sampling of key tasks and/or responsibilities associated with the job. They are not intended to be a complete list of all the duties performed by employees in the classification. + Create estimates for clients + Recommends to supervisor appropriate resources to accomplish work. + Review vehicle records for completion. + Collaborate with support staff on shop administration + Assist supervisors or other employees to solve task-related problems. + Assign and explain tasks to workers based on instructions specifications received from supervisor + Inspect work for conformance with specifications. + Train employees to meet quality and quantity standards. + Advise supervisor of work progress. + May perform any of the duties described in the Automotive & Equipment + Maintenance specification or other duties as assigned. + Promote adherence to safety rules. *Other duties may also be assigned **Education & Experience** **:** + In addition to the qualifications required for the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic Specialist the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic Lead requires experience coordinating the work of others. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** **:** + Skilled in the repair of gas, diesel and electrically powered vehicles and equipment. + Knowledge of safety practices consists of industry standards and practices. + Basic computer system knowledge for work order and time entry + Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment, including power tools and testing equipment. + Expertise in all phases of automobile and equipment mechanics + Demonstrated ability to perform sustained, heavy, and precision work, including responsibility for critical measurements, e.g., shaft end-play, piston/cylinder clearance, main bearing tolerances, etc. with no supervision. + Trained and licensed to repair and maintain air brake systems. + Advanced level of diagnostic skills to identify problems. + Skilled in tasks they direct and be able to solve task-related problems. + Demonstrated ability to effect good working relationships with other employees. + Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions and communicate those instructions to others. + Ability to coordinate multiple resources to accomplish work. + Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. **Certifications and Licenses** **:** + Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver’s License. + Current ASE certification required or must be obtained within a specified period after starting the role. **Physical Requirements** ***:** + Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License. + Ability to drive day or night. + Frequently stand/walk, perform desk-based computer tasks, write by hand, use telephone. + Occasionally sit, grasp forcefully, twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, grasp lightly, operate hand and foot controls, sort/file paperwork or parts, work/reach above shoulders lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10 to 40 pounds. + Rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), lie on creeper, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh more than 40 pounds * Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities.
