The Painter, Automotive is responsible for preparing and painting tactical and non-tactical equipment/components in support of the Army Chemical Agent Resistant Coating, Camouflage and Marking (CARC) at Fort Bragg, NC.
Responsibilities
This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
+ Mixes and applies various types and colors of paints to interior and exterior surfaces of equipment to include, but not limited to, single color and camouflage pattern painting of chemical agent resistant coating (CARC) in accordance with AR 750-1, TM 43-0139, TB 43-0209, and local directives.
+ Coats surfaces and motor vehicles such as automobiles, buses, and trucks with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices; and scraper, and smooths surface with sandpaper and steel wool.
+ Media blasting when required.
+ Cuts stencils and applies letters, numbers, insignias, unit designators, and other markings.
+ Mask and cover portions of surfaces not to be painted, paint vehicle or specified portion of vehicle and may paint insignia, letters or numerals on vehicle surface using stencils.
+ Operates and maintains all Installation Material Maintenance Division (IMMD) paint booths and breathing air machines in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910-107, AR 200-1.
+ Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
+ Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
+ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to: Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.
+ Steel Toe shoes are required.
+ May be required to operate materiel handling equipment and military equipment.
+ Face mask that covers the nose and mouth are required to be worn during paint booth operations.
+ Must be able to wear a respirator mask.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
+ May perform work in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust.
+ May be required to work in confined spaces and at positions of heights.
+ May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
+ Required to wear Personal Protection Equipment specific to paint operations.
+ Specific contractual requirements regarding education and experience prevail where applicable.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
+ Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
+ Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ Three to Five years of related experience with CARC paint, preferred.
+ Experience with media blasting preferred.
+ Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Able to react to change and handle additional tasks as assigned.
+ Must have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
+ Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
+ Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
+ Knowledge/awareness of safety issues and ability to perform duties in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
+ Must be responsive and reliable, detail-oriented, have good judgment and excellent problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work independently with little supervisory direction and as a team player.
