So, what might a “typical” day look like?

oDetermine exact nature and extent of repairs required. Uses a wide variety of test equipment such as test panels, dynamometers, oscilloscopes, and exhaust analyzers in addition to visual and auditory checks to locate defects.

oPerform the full range of maintenance, overhaul and repair work of major components and assemblies such as engines, transmissions, and differentials of automobiles. Gasoline and/or diesel powered trucks, buses and materials handling equipment like forklifts.

oMajor and minor overhaul and repair of steering, braking systems, related electrical, fuel, hydraulic, wheel and engine assemblies.

The Qualifiers:

oMust possess current and valid ASE Certification(s).

oOne to three years of experience of required knowledge and ability to perform automotive repair and maintenance services on automobiles, trucks, vans or forklifts etc.

oMay substitute 2 years of automotive technical study for one year of experience.

oPhysical requirements and working conditions: Required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts are in hard-to-reach places. Regularly lifting parts and equipment weighing from 20-50 pounds. Normally works inside on concrete floors where it is drafty and noisy with fumes from vehicles present. Occasionally work outside, sometimes in bad weather. Exposure to dirt, dust, and grease.

oMust receive Hazardous Material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations.

oMust pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

Job Summary:

Responsible for performing the full range of overhaul and repair work to major components and assemblies of a variety of vehicles and materials handling equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs the full range of maintenance overhaul and repair work of major components and assemblies such as engines transmissions and differentials of automobiles gasoline and or diesel powered trucks buses and materials handling equipment such as forklifts and similar types of automotive vehicles. Determines exact nature and extent of repairs required and performs major and minor overhaul and repair on engines transmissions suspensions steering and braking systems and related electrical fuel hydraulic wheel and engine assemblies. Tears down and rebuilds components and assemblies as necessary by fitting and installing needed parts such as rings pistons bearings and gears. Aligns meshes and connects repaired units to related mechanisms such as the engine and related clutch mechanism. Hooks up fuel oil hydraulic and electrical systems to repaired units and makes adjustments to assure proper operation of units. Uses a wide variety of test equipment such as test panels dynamometers oscilloscopes and exhaust analyzers as well as visual and listening checks to trace and locate defects.

·Incumbent will exercise tact good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers.

·Assignments are received in the form of work orders inspection reports or oral instructions. Is expected to plan work sequences select tools repair parts and otherwise carry assignments through to completion referring only the unusual and difficult problems to supervisor. Work is subject to review upon completion for acceptability and adherence to established trade standards.

·Performs other related duties as assigned. ASE Certification s for assigned work responsibilities are required.

·XW-10 Technicians must possess all 8 ASE Certifications in the Automobile and Light Truck Certification Series A Testing or Master Certification as follows

oA1 - Engine Repair

oA2 - Automatic Drive Train Transaxle

oA3 - Manual Drive Train Axles

oA4 - Suspension Steering

oA5 - Brakes

oA6 - Electrical Electronic Systems

oA7 - Heating Air Conditioning

oA8 - Engine Performance

·Failure to maintain current ASE Certifications may result in a position downgrade or termination due to failure to meet job requirements.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

·Is required to stand stoop bend stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Regularly lifting parts and equipment weighing from 20-50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

·Normally works inside on concrete floors where it is drafty and noisy and where fumes from vehicles are present and occasionally outside sometimes in bad weather. Is exposed to dirt dust and grease and is subject to cuts bruises burns shocks and strains.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT

·Associate must receive hazardous material HazMat training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations
