The Autonomous Driver Specialist works at the Michigan Proving Ground in Romeo, Michigan and is responsible for driving vehicles on various test procedures. 

You'll have... 
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid and unrestricted driver’s license. 
• 2 year’s driving experience.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts.

Even better, you may have...
• Ability to work in inclement weather.
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience driving a manual transmission vehicle.
• Experience towing trailers.

What you'll do...
As an Autonomous Driver Specialist – Day Shift, you’ll be at the heart of our testing operations, ensuring the smooth running of our autonomous vehicle programs. Your responsibilities will include:
• Driving and Maintaining Vehicles: You’ll get behind the wheel of our newest vehicles, putting them through their paces on various test procedures. You’ll also ensure their smooth operation by performing daily inspections and troubleshooting any minor mechanical or electrical issues.
• Supporting Autonomous Systems: You’ll be hands-on with the latest autonomous technology, assisting with the setup and teardown of testing equipment, understanding, and installing hardware, and ensuring the systems are functioning flawlessly.
• Data Collection and Reporting: You’ll have the opportunity to observe and analyze vehicle performance, collecting valuable data that helps us refine and improve our autonomous systems. You’ll also be a key communicator, sharing your observations and insights with the test coordinator to ensure the smooth running of our testing operations.


This is a Supplemental Driver Day Shift Position – candidates who apply must agree to all the following:
• This is a salaried, supplemental position represented by the UAW.
• You’ll be assigned to a crew and will need to check in with your supervisor each day to see if work is available.
• If work is available, you are expected to be able to come in and work that shift. You must be available to work at least 80% of the shifts offered to you during a 3-month period. 


Crew Assignments:
• Crew assignments are based on operational needs and seniority.
• We will try to accommodate your preference for H-Crew or I-Crew, but workload needs will determine the final assignments.

Shift Pattern:
We have a 4-crew shift pattern for day shift:
• H-Crew: Works every Monday/Tuesday and alternates Wednesday and weekends (specific days are determined by the calendar)
• I-Crew: Works every Thursday/Friday and alternates Wednesdays and weekends (specific days are determined by the calendar)

Training:
• You’ll complete your training on your assigned shift and crew.
• During training, you’ll cover onboarding tasks, safety training, and all the test procedures used within the unit.
• Occasionally, training sessions may happen outside of your regular crew schedule.
