APL is seeking an energetic and talented Autonomous Systems Test Engineer who is interested in being part of a diverse team, pursuing advanced applications of artificial intelligence and autonomy to enable future combat capabilities to out maneuver and out think the adversary. Our team is made up of professionals with a demonstrated expertise in aerospace engineering, control theory, machine learning, optimization / optimal control theory, stochastic optimal control and the general field of artificial intelligence. As an Autonomous Systems Test Engineer... You will research and develop new and novel approaches for test and evaluation of AI and autonomous systems to include methods for evaluating system performance, trust, and certification; Research areas of interest include live-virtual-constructive, run time assurance, system performance metrics, real time analysis of autonomous system performance, and analysis of complex systems and large data sets. You will develop test requirements, test and safety plans, test processes and procedures, analysis methodologies, and test execution strategies for intelligent combat systems. You will be a member of the test team, support the software, hardware, ground and flight testing of AI and autonomous systems including testing at remote locations. You will provide test and evaluation expertise to customers on performers testing approaches, plans, schedules, and capabilities to ensure program success. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or another related field. Have at least five years of relevant experience as a test engineer. Have experience developing test plans/reports, and supporting live test events. Have experience with developing analysis tools and techniques using Python, MATLAB, or other software coding languages. Have demonstrated strength with communication skills - both verbal and written. Are able to travel within CONUS to U.S. Government and defense contractor's sites as well as to the work locations of Group staff. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Possess a Master's degree (or higher) in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or another related field. Have experience working with unmanned aircraft test and evaluation. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
