Autonomy Intern- Embedded Software

JOB SUMMARY:

This program gives students the experience of working in an engineering technical environment, which will assist them in relating their academic studies to practical work situations. Interns will develop a working knowledge of the vocational vehicle industry in the area of autonomous systems and electrical/mechanical systems engineering. Throughout this experience, students will also develop an understanding of Oshkosh’s products, customers, values, and processes. The Autonomy Engineer Intern will provide support for the Autonomy Engineering team. Activities will include designing reliable, functional, and cost effective vehicle control software; develop and test programming for vehicles and systems; support various systems through troubleshooting or reprogramming the system; develop test cases at the unit and bench level for requirements bases tests on autonomy software; execute design and integration support for unmanned vehicle control/embedded systems.

This role will work on a variety of key embedded software projects and initiatives ranging from simple tasks to more complex analytical projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

• Write quality, maintainable, object-oriented C++ software or MATLAB/Simulink software models.

• Develop and maintain PC programs used for the configuration of truck specific programming.

• Identify and control vehicle operation and maintenance risks.

• Prepare and maintain the software documentation necessary to support the configuration of truck

specific programming.

• Test truck specific programming to ensure the programming operates as specified.

• Participate in peer reviews and other engineering activities.

• Development and Integration tasks on unmanned vehicles or bench setup.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Undergraduate degree student majoring in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or related experience and skill.

• Strong academic record, GPA 3.0.

• Knowledge of basic programming (C/Python/MATLAB)

• High level of computer skill (Microsoft applications and Internet)

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of various degrees of information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with C or C++ programming or similar programming language.

• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink software modeling.

• Experience writing embedded applications on microcontrollers.

• Experience working with Controller Area Network (CAN) and the J1939 protocol.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficiency with various web-based software applications including Microsoft Office Word, Excel,

PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.

• Detail oriented and quality focused.

• Ability to work independently while prioritizing workload.

• Flexible and adaptable to working under tight deadlines and/or changing needs.

Pay Range:

$18.00 - $37.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
