Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

Conduct nutrition assessments for all patients using the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitor, evaluation), utilizing pertinent data to create patient-specific nutrition plans. Specializing care in accordance with age-specific populations, religion, ethnic, and cultural needs. Perform Nutrition-Focused Physical Examinations and nutrition interviews routinely. Assess appropriateness of therapeutic diets. Develop and/or evaluate enteral and parenteral nutrition prescriptions, making recommendations as needed. Evaluation effectiveness of nutrition interventions and adjust as clinically indicated to support outcome goals. Participate in facility Nutrition at Risk (NAR) meetings to assess higher risk individuals requiring regular interdisciplinary team evaluation. Communicate regularly with the IDT through interdisciplinary meetings and other forms of communication. Schedule and announce departmental meeting times, dates, places, etc. as needed. Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, nutrition quality assurance audits, etc. to ensure dietary department compliance with policy, state, and federal regulations. Work with food service director to assure food service staff are demonstrating safe, sanitary practices and providing meals as prescribed. Provide nutrition-related in-services as requested. Review and approve facility menus bi-yearly, assuring nutritional adequacy consistent with dietary manual. Approve of substitutions as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Licensure:

A bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field and completion of a dietetic internship approved by the Accreditation Council of Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Maintains Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and continuing education requried. Dietitian license and/or certification required to be obtained within 60 days from date of hire, type dependent on which state providing MNT.

Experience and Qualifications:

At least one (1) year of healthcare experience in clinical dietetics, preferred. Possess skills to organize and prioritize tasks to adhere to clinical expectations, function independently, and make independent decisions with minimal assistance. Safe and reliable form of transportation required to reach facility under diverse weather conditions.
