PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Avionics Technician performs avionics maintenance and troubleshooting on aircraft, simulators and in back shop environments. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


• Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions for all avionics and aircraft electrical repairs to NASA assigned aircraft.
• Responsible for the maintenance, testing, inspection, repair and integration of aircraft electrical, electronic, computer systems, and research test equipment and payloads in NASA assigned research aircraft platforms.
• Inspect, test, and operate avionic and electrical test equipment to ensure serviceability, proper operation and ensure test equipment calibration schedules are up to date.
• Troubleshoot, Test and overhaul:  NASA Operations VHF/UHF radios, Pro-panels, Aircraft Navigation Radios, Radio Management Systems, T38 relay panels, PFD/EED, Super Guppy EFIS, Air data Computers, Transponders and Distance Measuring Equipment.
• Must be familiar with Engineering Work orders (EWO’s) and be able to complete required instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Troubleshoot and Repair J85 Jet Engine Test Cell.
• Troubleshoot and Repair NASA T38 Aircraft simulator
• Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall avionics and aircraft electrical components and accessories.
• Update, program and maintain navigational and flight management system databases on assigned aircraft.
• Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
• Practice good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention in accordance with company and NASA policies and procedures.
• Inspect and maintain aircraft batteries and test equipment.
• Perform scheduled and un-scheduled aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as required.
• Perform aircraft ground support duties, including towing, marshalling and jacking aircraft.
• Perform maintenance on aircraft, including avionics, mechanical systems, and/or ground support equipment.
• Repair, inspect and maintain structural, mechanical and electrical elements of the aircraft. 
• Knowledgeable in the use of, and be able to train others in the use of a wide variety of diagnostics devices, computers, hand and mechanical tools. 
• Provide oversight and have the ability to direct and train others in the completion of aircraft related maintenance tasks.
• May include Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties.
• Troubleshoot systems as required to meet customer needs.
• Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
• Maintain control tools. Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and replace worn or broken tools.
• Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day to day maintenance. Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
• Electrical and electronic malfunction troubleshooting skills required.
• Systems knowledge should include, aircraft radar, communications, navigation, flight control (autopilot), flight Management, and flight display systems.
• Must possess in-depth knowledge of advanced electronic principles and circuit analysis along with the ability to interpret schematic diagrams, engineering drawings and charts of assigned systems.
• Required to trace signal flow and understand interrelationships of circuits.
• Possess demonstrable soldering, cable, crimp and harness (CCH) fabrication skills.
• Avionic Technician  may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite.  Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members.
• Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow a process.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
• Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills.  Ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
• Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista Solutions, LLC goals.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
• High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to multi-task.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Level 1 Certification in ESD Protection (Electrostatic)
• May require a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airplane and/or Powerplant certification
• May require a FCC GROL Certification

• 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.
• Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
