Responsibilities
This is a new role created for the initial purpose of establishing an Accountants Professional Liability (APL) unit within the Professional Liability business segment to expand our product offerings to our distribution partners. The leader will be responsible for building out the platform and underlying business strategy to execute the APL business plan reporting to the segment SVP. The APL unit will concentrate on accounts resembling the current Professional Liability unit (MPL and TPL) with a similar diversification strategy and Limit profile.
Create a strategy document and business plan for writing profitable business in this spaceEstablish underwriting guidelinesWork with the Product Development lead to create Policy form and relevant endorsementsImplement a seamless integration with our existing Professional book and guidelinesIdentify target classes and geographic opportunitiesIdentify distribution partnersEstablish rating schemes in partnership with the Actuarial teamPartner with IT and operations personnel to develop a platform for highly efficient underwriting and processing of submissionsDetermine staffing needs if and when appropriateDevelop letters of authority as neededDevelop a two-year pro forma P&LFacilitate and manage broker relationships in the space with the support of Marketing and SalesForceBroker Relationships: Demonstrates a high level of responsiveness and professional demeanor. Will manage pre-visit written agendas and post-visit assessments and follow-up. Portfolio Management: Will create and manage an Accountants Professional Liability book by analyzing the portfolio, identifying areas of opportunity for improved growth, profit and diversification, and executing the business plan.Leadership: Formally guides, mentors, and coaches underwriters in both technical and professional skills. Demonstrates areas of expertise and provides regular updates and feedback to underwriters.Collaboration – collaborate effectively with functional leaders: Actuary, claims, Underwriting, It and Marketing to gain support and drive initiative for profitabilityTravel – initial travel will include frequent trips to Chicago and Atlanta to work with the VP- Underwriting and Market Segment Executive, with occasional broker visits performed in the future to support the business plan. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree requiredMinimum of 10+ years’ commercial lines underwriting experience, specifically Accountants Professional LiabilityExperience in managing a teamAdvanced-level knowledge of insurance products/coverage, market segment and marketplace, insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss control/risk engineering; marketing/selling techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance; specifically, Accountants Professional LiabilityAbility to apply underwriting/appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems for own portfolioAbility to establish and build healthy working relationships, lead mentoring relationships and provide coaching to staff.Computer knowledge: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook proficiency, Internet proficiency, knowledge of claims management tools
