Job Description Summary

Drives Agribusiness and Farm Claims performance across the United States. Leads a nationally administered, customer-facing claims organization. Works collaboratively with the leadership office of claims as well as Agribusiness leadership to ensure effective and efficient claims services. The Agribusiness operation handles many multi-million-dollar cases with large accounts, in which several exceed $1M in annual premium. The job is responsible for a national commercial claims operation servicing over $1B book of business.

Job Description

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP Commercial Lines Claims.  Direct reports (Casualty Directors-2; Executive Admin-1; Consultant Claims Admin-1; Consultant Business Consulting-1).  Indirect reports (Roughly 125 total; Manager, Claims-9; F and Below-115).

Core Duties and Responsibilities: 

Accountable for service delivery, claims performance expense for Agribusiness and Farm Claims in all disciplines. Counsels CL AVP of Property and WC to ensure business alignment.

Conduit between Agribusiness President/cabinet and the Commercial Lines Claims AVP of Property and Worker's Compensation to ensure business needs are being met in a manner that aligns to the strategic direction of Agribusiness. Includes site an agent visits or delegation to Claims Director as requested.

Responsible for driving technical excellence across the us for Claims associated with agribusiness and food production. Develops strategies, goals and monitors for adherence to best practices.

Provides specialized and technical expertise in file review, reserve/settlement authority for highly complex, exposure with Commercial Agribusiness and Farm casualty. Establish and implement Best Practices to ensure the highest claim quality. Deliver specialized service that retains and attracts new business. Control

Claims executive responsible for making decisions that align with Commercial Claims organization to support the Agribusiness and Farm strategies.

Represents Commercial Agribusiness providing a local presence in the Des Moines facility, supporting VP to interact with Sales, Pricing, Risk Management, HR and Cabinet.

Directs associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.

Interacts closely with senior claims leadership and peer AVP's as well as leaders of various stakeholder business units such as Actuary, Underwriting, Sales, Risk Management, and Finance to ensure unified alignment in accomplishing P&C business objectives.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education:  Bachelor's degree or post-graduate studies strongly preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Relevant professional designations or claims-specific certifications are highly desirable.

Experience: Ten or more years’ experience in commercial/casualty claims operation including at least five years in leadership capacity preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Strong knowledge of commercial casualty/bodily injury, worker's comp and property commercial experience. Demonstrated decision-making skills including the ability to recognize analyze and improve. Strong leadership background. Knowledge and application of relevant claims technical equipment and software. Strategic agility, results orientation, customer focus, effective team building, decision making quality, organizational agility, business acumen. Proven ability to manage, motivate and lead diverse teams in a changing environment as well as drive Corporate initiatives and projects. Excellent communication skills and ability to act upon and share complex, technical information with a broad audience.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for AVP, Agribusiness Claims : $159,000.00-$313,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, Agribusiness Claims : $167,000.00 - $279,000.00
