Addendum:

This role will lead a group of virtual territory managers that interact with and manage several national networks and aggregators.  The role will also serve as the central point of leadership contact for several other national firms and networks.  They will coordinate activation, communication, and operational execution across business units for these firms.  Collaboration with regional sales teams, underwriting, and other business units will be vital in order to drive desired operating results.

Job Description Summary

This roll will plan, develop, and coordinate programs and plans that result in profitable sales at agreed upon growth rates and acceptable premium, retention, agency strength and expense levels for the region or National Firms. You will be accountable for Small Commercial within a defined territory or full ownership for all National Firms. Responsible for establishing and leading specific strategic initiatives to grow top line for all Small Commercial products. Held accountable for maintaining balance between growth and a profitable portfolio.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

Plans and develops sales programs and distribution strategies to create sales opportunities for small commercial and Nationwide products across multiple product lines. Responsible for achieving production goals for new quality business and maintaining policies in force goals. Recommends sales production quotas for all lines of insurance and associated products. 

Builds relationships with prospective and existing agency leaders to drive business results. Evaluates, recruits and creates new quality small commercial strategic appointments.  Works across P&C field sales organizations to support and assist with small commercial appointments. 

Management and development of sales staff. Oversees the selection, training, evaluation and compensation of the sales organization to ensure a high degree of competency and professionalism.  Plans, implements and communicates policies, procedures and financial budgets that result in attainment of sales objectives. 

Responsible for agency revenue and growth to meet company plans.  Consults with agency leaders to drive business results that align to targeted returns and Nationwide value proposition. 

Actively engages at a national level with industry organizations that share common Small Commercial interests to build relationships, contribute to policy and practice discussions, enhance Nationwide’s reputation and create business opportunities. 

Works closely with peers and leaders across disciplines to carry out strategic intent. Consults with internal and external business partners regarding policy and practice. Provides direction into strategic plans and helps identify operational opportunities and efficiencies. 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

 

Reporting Relationships: VP, Small Commercial Sales and Distribution – Small Commercial 

 

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

 

Education: Undergraduate studies in insurance, business, finance, marketing or related field preferred. 

 

Experience: 10+ years’ experience of field sales management or technical insurance experience. Strong leadership skills with the ability to work across multiple disciplines and business units. Strategic agility, results orientation, customer focus, effective team building, ability to lead and develop talent, decision making quality, organizational agility, business acumen. 

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:   Deep knowledge of P&C insurance industry. Establishing Strategic Direction, Optimizing Diversity, Selling the Vision, Leading Change, Driving Execution, Strong understanding of commercial lines business operations (product management, underwriting, etc.).  Executive level communication and presentation skills.    

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.  

 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for AVP, Distribution - Commercial Small Market : $142,000.00-$280,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, Distribution - Commercial Small Market : $150,000.00 - $250,000.00
