ResponsibilitiesThe AVP, Senior Underwriter will apply knowledge about the risk factors that drive exposure for Architects & Engineers professional liability coverage. The AVP will apply the key decision-making elements of professional liability underwriting within their authority grant in order to appropriately structure coverage and quotations, while also identifying factors that will lead to a declination. This position will interface daily with our distribution partners by phone, email and in person. The AVP will be utilizing our policy management system in order to access our data platform for rating, quotation, binding, issuing and policy servicing. Finally, as an entry-level officer, the AVP will contribute to strategic discussions and will specialize in one or more additional subject matters (product and/or function).
Key functions include but are not limited to:
Review of applications and making determinations of acceptability for coverage.Input on data into policy and quote management system (Phoenix II.)Analysis of claims data for decision making and for rating input.Utilization of Odyssey Claims Management system for claims analysis.Preparation of quotations for risks that fall within authority grant.Preparation and communication of referrals for risks that exceed authority grant.Communication of terms and declinations to brokers.Selection and production of endorsements and customization of insurance coverage.Utilization of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.Communication by phone and email with company personnel and brokersOccasional Travel required Qualifications Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferredPrior insurance experience preferredPrior completion of insurance coursework or licensing preferredA minimum of 8 years of experience underwriting A/E Professional liability insurance policies.Strong analytical skills.Strong communication skills, both written and oral.Some prior marketing or sales skills preferred.Ability to understand complex insurance regulations, policy language, construction methodology, design standards and evolving case law.Experience in developing policy language and analyzing the policy language of other carriers.Understanding of state regulations and ability to maintain compliance standards.Familiarization with MS Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.Individual should be self-motivated and goal oriented.Some travel required. • Base Salary Range: $135,000 – $165,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
