Axle Counter Supervisor
Basic Function

The Axle Counter Supervisor provides first-line supervision of the axle counter maintenance team and oversees the maintenance functions of the axle counter system ensuring the highest standards are maintained.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g., training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved. Maintains, audits, and supervises inspection, maintenance activities, and professional qualification system programs. Observes and provides guidance on equipment and material installations, tests on equipment and material, reports any noted deficiencies. Completes, assigns, and verifies inspections and repairs.   Records and documents maintenance and diagnostic data. Perform troubleshooting, inspection, testing, and repair utilizing specialized tools and equipment.  Assists in the development and refinement of the preventative maintenance program for the axle counter system.  Works with staff and vendors to assure adequate spare parts, tools, and other necessary equipment are on-hand to support revenue operations. Schedules work assignments for routine and special events Prioritizes emergency and routine maintenance tasks. Participates in accident investigation teams and recommends corrective actions as necessary. Completes ongoing vendor training on systems equipment and maintenance procedures as well as METRO training associated with safety and technical subjects. Provides coordination of track allocation activities. Provides on-call availability for emergency repairs and unscheduled incidents. Assists other Operations groups and divisions as necessary to ensure safe and reliable service. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range:  $54,300 - $71,200 Education Requirement

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum three (3) years of increasingly responsible electrical, electronic, and mechanical maintenance experience.  Experience with transit system equipment (track, traction power and/or signals and communications) and tools is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Good (verbal/written) communications skills are essential to resolve maintenance issues. Must have a Class C driver’s license and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
