POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Regional Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Manager leads the strategic execution of food safety and quality programs, system assessments and implementation, and related technical services including sanitation, regulatory compliance, internal and external compliance audits, facility food safety, and associated training. The role includes the responsibility for Complex FSQ and FSQ Managers as direct reports including their professional development. Requires a strong interface with Regional Operations Managers and Complex Managers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Utilize experience of food safety, regulatory compliance and overall food quality, to lead and establish a strong platform for the enhancement of FSQ Operational Excellence.Implement effective systems and programs to assure key FSQ objectives are incorporated for sustainable success.Provide leadership to facility FSQ Managers to ensure program and system implementation.Provide direction to the regional teams for the ongoing verification to ensure compliance to food safety and quality policies, programs, etc. with supporting documentation in the day-to-day operations, to prevent the recurrence of food safety and quality failures and to work on root cause analysis with permanent corrective actions as needed to institutionalize those resolutions to reduce risk for Rose Acre Farms.Provide coaching and development of facility FSQ managers.Work collaboratively with the Regional and Facility Operations on a frequent basis regarding facility FSQ manager performance, facility performance and food safety and quality culture.Provide technical assistance and advisory services at facility and corporate levels pertaining to the resolution of FSQ issues.Work closely with the facility teams to champion resolution of food safety and quality issues to ensure customer satisfaction through root cause analysis, corrective and/or preventive actions and technical support.Communicate food safety issues, regulatory issues and other critical matters to senior leadership through the established Management Process.Partner with cross functional teams to understand and ensure efficient and effective sanitary practices; this includes improving sanitary design of facilities and equipment.Champion behavior and education/training to drive a strong food safety and quality culture across the organization.Maintain open communication with Director to report performance, progress, issues and updates.Ensure safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations on environmental, health and safetyContribute to the creation and implementation of best practice FSQ vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve facility performance.Provide technical expertise to the team.Participates and provides feedback into Management Reviews, and other FSQ related meetings.Consistently demonstrates good judgment and critical thinking in the performance of duties.Attend industry meetings and functions as assigned.Must treat all (employees, co-workers, management, customers and vendors) with respect and courtesy.Must be able to work varying schedule including days, nights and weekends as necessary.Must be able to travel overnight as required. Approximately 80%.All other duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or similar degree is preferred. Proven equivalent work experience will be considered.Seven to ten years in Food Safety and Quality in food manufacturing.HACCP, Preventive Controls, GFSI experience as well as experience dealing with FDA, FSIS and AMS. The ideal candidate would be a person who has leadership skills, experience in the function, been a supervisor for a decentralized technical team.He or she will also demonstrate strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills and have the ability to work on a computer (understanding Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).Proven experience in leading and developing direct reportsStrong written, verbal and presentation skills.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.ANIMAL WELFARE COMMITMENT:
