Description Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Data Engineer to support enterprise-level data initiatives focused on building scalable and efficient data pipelines, transformations, and cloud-based data solutions. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity requiring a hybrid schedule with on-site work 2–3 days per week. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Azure-native data services and a strong foundation in data engineering, ETL development, and modern data platform architecture. This role focuses on building and optimizing data pipelines and architecture—not infrastructure or DevOps. Key Responsibilities: + Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse + Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes for structured and semi-structured data sources + Implement robust data integration workflows from source systems to cloud-based storage and analytics environments + Transform raw data into clean, curated datasets using PySpark, SQL, or Databricks + Ensure data quality, governance, and integrity across multiple pipelines and environments + Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and BI teams to support reporting and analytics needs + Monitor pipeline performance and proactively identify areas for improvement Requirements Required Skills & Experience: + 5+ years of experience in data engineering or similar role + Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2), and Azure SQL + Strong SQL development skills (queries, views, stored procedures) + Experience with Databricks, PySpark, or similar distributed data processing tools + Familiarity with data modeling concepts and data warehouse/lakehouse architectures + Proficiency in scripting with Python or Scala for data transformations + Knowledge of source control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines in data workflows + Strong understanding of data governance, security, and privacy best practices Nice to Have: + Experience with Delta Lake and medallion architecture + Exposure to Power BI or similar reporting tools + Knowledge of Azure DevOps or other CI/CD automation tools + Previous experience in a regulated industry (e.g., finance, healthcare, insurance) Technology Doesn't Change the World, People Do.® Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
